Re: July! What are you reading?

Spudd, I didn't stick with it. I really didn't like it in the first 30 pages and then I made the mistake of reading all the bad reviews on Goodreads. Sometime last week I started Reconstructing Amelia and finished it on Saturday. It was a really good summer read. Next up is "Me Before You".

Re: July! What are you reading?

I finished Brain on Fire. It was excellent!! Really fascinating on a lot of levels. The most interesting to me was her writing about the merging of psychology and neurology and the growing science behind it.

Tonight I'm going to start Reconstructing Amelia.

Re: June - what are you reading?

I'm a ways into the nanny book and it's just okay to me. It starts off really confusing because she tells it in backflash format so the first chapter is in the future and we have no clue who any of the people are. Oh great. I bet I'll quit this book too. But it's a 14 day loan so I'll start it first.

Re: June - what are you reading?

"American Wasteland" is turning out to be a terrible book. The writing is awful and jumps around a lot. It's like making sense of scribbles. THANK GOD, I got an email that 2 of my holds are in at the library. One is "What the Nanny Saw", the other is "Brain on Fire". Wh...

Re: June - what are you reading?

I finished "What Alice Forgot". It wasn't bad. Nothing amazing but it held my attention.

Started "American Wasteland" about food waste in America. I got through one chapter last night. :lol It's interesting but you know...sort of sleep inducing too. ;)

Re: June - what are you reading?

The Age of Miracles by Karen someone - I'm only halfway through this one, but finding it very fun. I do question the physics at times, but I try to suspend my disbelief. :) I really enjoyed that book too, also against my better judgement. The concept was sort of fascinating (even when it sparked a ...

June - what are you reading?

I finally finished "The Light Between Oceans" a couple nights ago. UGH. It wasn't a bad book but for some reason it felt like a chore to read. Last night I started "People Who Eat Darkness". True crime story about a young woman who goes missing in Tokyo. I think Anna recommended ...

Re: May! What are you reading?

My reading progress has slowed way down. Lots of stress, fatigue and extra TV watching. I finished "The Autobiography of Us" earlier this month. It was decent. Nothing too thought provoking but it held my attention well enough. I'm currently reading "The Light Between Oceans", wh...

Re: April! What are you reading?

I just finished "A Thousand Lives". It was about Jonestown. It was EXCELLENT. Really fascinating read. My only complaint was that there were a lot of names to keep track of and the name "Jim" was very common and the author wasn't great about differentiating between them. Before t...

Re: April! What are you reading?

Outliers is a good, easy read. There's a part about Canadian hockey in there that you'll probably find interesting. :)

Re: April! What are you reading?

I think it's an April Fool's joke. :)

I'm still in the first 100 pages of "So Much For That" by Lionel Shriver. I haven't been reading much the last week or so. Blah.

Re: March! What are you reading?

I finished "Boys Adrift" (non-fiction about development of boys in America today). Interesting stuff.

Now I'm starting "The Highly Sensitive Child" (self-explanatory) and probably "So Much For That" by Lionel Shriver.

Re: March! What are you reading?

Bernadette seems to be an all-around hit! Yay! I'm just about finished with "Tiny Beautiful Things". Oh my goodness you guys. I HIGHLY recommend it. My capacity for empathy is already pretty high but I've found that it's caused me to be more empathetic to *myself*, something I didn't reali...

Re: March! What are you reading?

I finished "Let's Not Go to the Dogs Tonight" (thank God, I'm tired of typing that out). Next up is Dear Sugar. Also, still finishing up Boys Adrift. edit: it's "Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight". :angrywife edit II: The new book is called "Tiny Beautiful Things" by C...

:lol at Blush!

I'm simultaneously reading: Boys Adrift (good) and Let's Not Go to the Dogs Tonight (very good, very depressing).

I read such uplifting stuff!!

Re: February already! What are you reading?

:( I gave up on "Freedom". I was about 180 pages in and just felt like I slogging through minute details with no real plot advancement. I feel kind of guilty and certainly disappointed. That's the 2nd book in a row that I've flaked on. Where is my self-discipline?! Regardless, I've moved o...

Re: February already! What are you reading?

I started and quit "Columbine". Too dark and I'm already in a funky place with all the gray weather and a string of "eh" books. So I went to the used bookstore and got "Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight" and "Freedom". I started "Freedom" last night...

Re: February already! What are you reading?

I'm suffering my way through "Run" by Ann Patchett. Another book that I keep thinking I should just quit but then I'm just far enough along to think I should stick it out. Ugh. I'm due for a GOOD read. This one and my last were lame. The next I have queued up is "Columbine" but e...

Re: February already! What are you reading?

I read the first 10 pages or so of Columbine last night and officially decided it's NOT an okay traveling/vacation book. :lol Probably not surprising but I wasn't sure. I'll have to look around and see if I have anything else I've forgotten about, otherwise I'll hit a bookstore or something for a pa...
