Re: May!

Rowan, I usually like Barclay but I have to space out his books. I like that this one is a one-off and not part of a series. I have also learned he's written some political satire skewering a couple of our Conservative premiers here in Ontario: the current guy and the guy who was in power in the 90s...

Re: May!

I finished The Night Garden. It started off charmingly. Quirky but fun, and then it just got a bit too weird. I think even if I had been 10 or 11 I might have rolled my eyes.

Now I have a suspense novel: Fear The Worst by Linwood Barclay.

Re: May!

I finished The Dark Eyed Girls. It was just what I needed; totally absorbing.

Now I have The Night Garden by Polly Horvath. It's meant for pre-teens; I won it in a giveaway a couple of years ago and haven't read it yet.

Re: May!

Last night I finished Where the Heart Is. It was cheesy, but I kind of need cheesy right now.

Not sure what's next.

Edit: I decided on The Dark Eyed Girls by Judith Lennox.

Re: April books

I decided on Where the Heart Is, and see that Sílvia only gave it one star. I have a feeling I'm going to find it too cheesy, but that if I had read it closer yo the publication date (1995) I bet I would have loved it.

Re: April books

I finished The Family Next Door by Sally Hepworth. It was good and the author reminded me a bit of Liane Moriarty.

I don't know what I will read next. I'm so far behind on my book challenge.

April books

I finally finished The Holdout. It was a pretty good distraction once I could make myself read, but man, that's hard these days. I'm four books behind schedule!

Next up is The Authenticity Project by Clare Pooley.

Re: March books!

I just finished The Widow Next Door. It was not good. It was a weird mix of North American and British English, and supposed to be suspenseful but I just didn't care.

I don't know what I will pick next.

Re: March books!

I decided against starting the Sheila OFlanagan because I got library books. I started The Widow Next Door by LA Detwiler.

March books!

I finished The Gown by Jennifer Robson. It was enjoyable. I have 3 that I am taking away. I think I am starting with The Dune by Jane Green. I used to really like her writing and then I read one I hated but I will give this a try. I can't remember if there's a book exchange at the place we're staying.

Re: February!

I enjoyed The Break!

I finished the Lori Lansens book--best book I've read so far this year. 5 stars. Gripping, plausible, well-written.

Now I have "What Alice Knew" by T.A. Cotterell. It's a suspense novel.

Re: February!

I finished The Nobodies. It was really good! It read like a YA novel (lots of feelings, introspection, funny awkward interaction between characters) but the protagonist was 36.

Now I have The Farm by Joanne Ramos.

Re: February!

I finished We Can See You. It was ok.

Next up is The Nobodies by Liza Palmer. It's about a struggling freelance journalist who takes a full-time job as a copywriter at a tech startup and she finds a story. 50 pages in and so far it's really good.

February!

I finished the Grant Ginder book last night (Honestly We Meant Well). It could have been a bit shorter but the plot, dialogue, and descriptions were good.

Now I have a suspense novel by Simon Kernick called We Can See You.

Re: Jan 2020, anyone?

I finished I'll Never Tell and it was pretty good. Then I read Her Husband's Mistake by Sheila O'Flanagan. The premise was good, the dialogue was well-written, but it was heavy handed. Yep, I get that the husband's an old fashioned thinking dickhead, thank you. Got it. (50 pages later) Yep, that's s...
