Re: February!

Next up is Half a Life by Devin Strauss (memoir), and I'm going to pick one of the fiction books I have lying around to read after that, but not sure which.

also yes, I'm here. Finally, 2023 has me reading!

Re: February!

so far this month I have read In Every Mirror She's Black which is a novel written by a friend of mine, which was pretty good and also disturbing. It's about three black women who all end up moving to Sweden and whose lives interact but don't intermingle. It's a pretty scathing look at what it's lik...

Re: January! What are you reading?

Finished The Lacuna and it was good, I'd recommend it, mostly. Still reading Roxanne Gay's Bad Feminist on kindle and just started Waiting for Snow in Havana (paper, yay!) today. I am also trying to finish up a mystery/intrigue book called Djibouti, which I bought on a whim off amazon, and I shouldn...

Re: January! What are you reading?

I am reading Barbara Kingsolver's The Lacuna, but it is slow going. In the past I have loved her books, but something here is slowing me down. I think I have about 100 pages left. Hope to finish it this week. I read Aziz Ansari's book Modern Romance, non fiction, about dating. it was ok, a few good ...

Re: September! What are you reading?

Sil, these are books published by big publishing houses, so I have high hopes. Now I'm reading Djibouti by Elmore Leonard, a mystery (more fiction) that was on the NYT bestseller list. I'm 40 pages in and I'm pretty hooked, but it's a bit "poppy" for me to want to read another. I know I st...

Re: September! What are you reading?

I just read "Bless Me, Última" by Rudolfo Anaya. I really enjoyed it, and it has some heartbreakingly gorgeous text in it. I mostly bought nonfiction stuff. I will go through tomorrow and either take a pic or let you know what I got. A few books written by friends, too! :)

Re: September! What are you reading?

I am reading Good Harbor by Anita Diamant. It's light reading, though has some serious topics in it. It's an easy read, and I'll probably finish it on the bus today. I have so many books that I don't even know how they got in my house, and I'm dedicating more time to reading lately, so I am reading ...

Re: May! What are you reading?

Lit by mary karr, a memoir. Up to p 24 and pretty into it.

Tried to read hedgemony or survival by noam chomsky, but had to give up. Too historical, pedantic, etc. going into the books to sell/give away pile.

spudd, I read that lowest points book when I was last in the states. It's awful! but I'll read pretty much anything about bike touring, too. have you caught up with reading the blog family on bikes? (altogether). I don't know when they'll be here, but I hope I can catch up with them!

Re: It's September! What are you reading?

I just finished The Romanian , which was weird, but maybe good for history lovers. Based on the life of a guy who moved to Romanian for a young (male) Romanian hustler and what happened, all the while addicted to codeine pills. I wonder whtere that book came from. I read what comes by, more than buy...

Re: POLL: Does your DH know what color your bathroom vanity is?

fwiw, I don't have a vanity, but I have a sink (innovative, right?), and it is powder blue, as is the toilet. Have I seriously never told you guys about my freakshow bathroom? It has a coffin-like tub, a nauseating blue and white circle pattern on the walls and blue fittings. It's very special, but ...

I have so much time to care for a flippin' llama and then weave myself a coat of many colors!

I know Beverly really wants a goat. Perhaps a llama would fit well in her fine family! It would keep itself warm in the winter!

Re: Its Feb - what are you reading?

I'm reading Heat , a book about apprenticing to a famous and somewhat crazy Italian Chef (non fiction). It's by Bill Buford, a criticallly acclaimed writer, and I just noticed it's a national bestseller. I'm about 60 pages in, and it's pretty good. I also read the Mammoth Book of Polar Explorations ...

I´m reading Salt, and Faye Weldon's Wicked Women. I just finished a book about a guy who is curing TB in Haiti, but I can't remember the name. I'm also reading a book on travel writing which I have had kicking around among my posessions for years.
