Re: December: what are you reading?

I'm reading The Grace Year by Kim Liggett. Chatter has it as The Handmaids Tale meets The Hunger Games. I'm not into it enough to get a real feel for it.

Re: October: What are you reading?

I really liked The Whisper Network. Not sure what's next...I started Marilou is Everywhere and I don't think I'm going to continue. I can't put my finger on why - I think I don't like the writing. I have so many books I bought at various book fairs this summer that I should tackle. Anyone read The S...

October: What are you reading?

Sorry...I didn't play much last month. I'm reading The Whisper Network (not to be confused with The Whisper Man which I also have on hold) and I"m liking it. From GoodReads: Whisper Network is a timely and powerful read about four women working in corporate America who band together to stop the whis...

Re: August: what are you reading?

Syl - I thought the premise of Vox was good but the story just veered and never came back. I was fairly disappointed too. I read It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover - not my typical book - alpha male-ish romance but I was surprised by liking it. It was an easy read. I'm reading The Bride Test which is...

Re: August: what are you reading?

I've read a few just meh books but I just finished Miracle Creek by Angie Creek. I loved it - 4 stars no question. I think I waited on this one for a while because of the title just sounded boring. Courtroom drama/mystery.

Re: August: what are you reading?

I finished The Nickel Boys and read The Chain. Both were 3 star not amazing although there's a lot of buzz about The Nickel Boys. I have Lady in the Lake by Laura Lippman on my pile next. It's technically already due but at 20 cents a day I'll pay for it because it will take forever to get it again.

Re: August: what are you reading?

I read a few books on the plane this weekend. Chelsea Girls by Fiona Davis (not my favorite of hers) The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah (this was excellent; trigger warning for domestic violence) I'm also 1/2 done And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie and 1/2 done The Nickel Boys by Colson Whit...

Re: April: What are you reading?

Thumbs up on The Better Sister. Glad I decided to read it -- sometimes reading reviews and hype isn't good.

I'm currently reading Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson and really enjoying it.

I'm off for 2 weeks before I start the new job so there will be lots of reading. :wave

Re: April: What are you reading?

I just finished I Miss You When I Blink by Mary Laura Philpott which is a collection of essays. I really enjoyed it and related to her stories (40's, have presumably "it all" but weirdly unhappy, etc). I have The Better Sister by Alafair Burke up next. I generally love all her stuff but the reviews ...

Re: April: What are you reading?

I loved Water for Elephants Blush! This weekend I read a few new releases that I need to bring back to the library ASAP. My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing (I liked it; the premise was a little weird though) Run Away by Harlan Coben (I liked this too but not as much as i like his stand alones) I hav...

Re: April: What are you reading?

Interesting that Portuguese needs more words. Can you read English and Portuguese at an equal speed? Wondering if even though Brazilian edition is longer it might be "quicker".

I'm reading My Lovely Wife which is weird but entertaining.

April: What are you reading?

I had a very productive reading weekend. :wave

I finished:

The Care of Ravenously Hungry Girls -- which was really good
The Kiss Quotient -- enjoyed but more "sexy" than I was expecting LOL
The Winter Girl -- meh

I have One of Us is Lying next.

Re: March - what are you reading?

I read No Exit by Taylor Adams and it was great! Best book I read this year by far! If you like thrillers, check it out! The Wild Lands by Paul Greci is next. From the publisher: Natural disasters and a breakdown of civilization have cut off Alaska from the world and destroyed its landscape. Now, as...

Re: March - what are you reading?

Sil -- I think we definitely like opposite books. Haha. I'll have to remember that. Just in March alone - I love all Harlan's stand alones and hated hated Nine Perfect Strangers. I also just finished 99 Percent Mine which I also hated. Sil? LOL It was sold as chick lit although I would say its more ...

I'm about halfway through 99 Percent Mine. I'm really not liking it but I feel that I've passed the point of no return. Gah.

No Exit is next.

Re: February! What are you reading?

The way I understood him (and I could be wrong) is that he doesn't outline the plot before or while writing. He just writes. I think it was Misery where he said I thought it would go this way but it went in a totally different way that he wasn't expecting.

March - what are you reading?

So....still haven't cracked my book open yet this week. Working/adulting is really getting in the way.

If I could share how dirty my house is....ugh. Winter hockey is almost over and I should have a break for a bit until spring hockey and lax picks up.

Re: February! What are you reading?

I have 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne next on my pile.

Feb was a light month for me and reading. I did just recently re-read Stephen King's book On Writing. I can't believe it's nearly 20 years old. He doesn't plot at all!
