Re: March!

Haha - it's mid month and nobody else is here! I read Bye, Baby by Carola Lovering. I thought it was really good! I flew through it on Wednesday. Next up is The Couple in 5B by Lisa Unger - should be good! I really like Unger. When I went to pick up books at the library the other day, I made a comme...

Re: March!

I read Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle - it was an ARC but I think it's out this month. I really enjoyed it - it was a smart romance with a twist. I also inhaled Dixon, Descending by Karen Outen yesterday - one sitting. It was a fiction story about 2 brothers climbing Everest. Really great - more ...

March!

I just finished The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. Five stars. Wow. It was based on the true story of Martha Ballard who was a midwife in 1800s Maine. This is the author that I was able to see speak and meet this past week. I'm so glad I made it even though it was a bear of a week! It's a tough book ...

Re: February!

Silvia - sometimes when i'm in a "book rut" I will re-read a favorite. Maybe that's an option if The Pillars of the Earth sequel doesn't work for you. I hate it when you can't find something you click with. Didn't get to read much this weekend. :( I hope I can still get to the author event...

Re: February!

Sorry I haven't been here all month. Silvia - sorry that Babel isn't working for you. Maybe the idea of translation is so foreign to me that it's not textbooky to me but that said, it wasn't an book that read itself. I finished The Women by Kristin Hannah which is her latest release about Vietnam. I...

Re: January!

Oh geez Blush -- I can't imagine you reading that the same year Tie died. Did you know what is was about? I also loved The Care and Feeding.... I finished Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan which was 4 stars for me. Highly recommend. I'm reading a digital ARC of the latest Kimberly McCreight ...

Re: January!

Hi! I hit 111 books last year but the last part of the year was really slow for me. I typically choose 100 as my goal and generally hit it. I'm not going to focus on numbers this year because it is starting to stress me out and it shouldn't be. I have a lot going on with a new(ish) job and getting h...

Re: December!

I'm working on the Winter Series by Elin Hilderbrand. I've been saving these for winter reading over the last few years. I felt the need for something easily digestible. I won't say they're awful but... I pulled out my top reads of the year if anyone is interested I can post. I had a good year with ...

Ooh I’m glad that Babel sounds interesting to you. I’ll be curious to hear.

Haven’t really started anything new. I have Winter Street by Elin Hilderbrand queued up but haven’t read it.

Re: December!

I finished My Murder and it was good but not great.

I ordered a speed reading book since if I don’t have enough time to read then I should read faster. Haha

Re: December!

That’s a really good question! Regular people in 1800 Oxford - just a bit of magic. It’s literary though — it took me almost 3 weeks to get through it but I really liked it.

December!

Wow - December already?? I loved loved Babel and the author talk with RF Kuang. It's literary with a tinge of fantasy (and I don't do fantasy) - it's about translation so might be interesting to you Silvia although I wouldn't have recommended it to you (if that makes any sense). I haven't read in da...

Re: November

Sylvia - that sounds really good and right up my alley.

Blush - I read that book too and had no idea who she was and also thought the title was cringe-y until I read it. Really really sad.

Re: November

Reading is sloooow for me. :sadpanda I'm on The Next Thing You Know by Jessica Strawser which is really good about a death doula. Next up is Babel by RF Kuang - I loved Yellowface and I bought a ticket to see her this coming week. She's a grad student at Yale - how she can do that and write best sel...

Re: October

I finished Whalefall - it was different and worth reading. I've had Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo on my shelf for a while and figured fall is a good time to read. Some of it takes place at Yale so that will be interesting. I've started doing monthly (?) buddy reads with a former colleague/friend whic...

Re: October

I'm with you...can't believe it's October. I finished Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll which is a fiction telling of the victims of Ted Bundy. It was very well done. They never refer to him by name, just The Defendant. I started Whalefall by Daniel Kraus which is about a teen diver who ge...

I started Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll. It's good - it's a Ted Bundy fiction book that focuses on the victims. I don't think she ever mentions him by name.

Re: September

I reached out to a friend to do a Stephen King buddy read for spooky season. LOL. She loved the idea - we planned for 2. The Dark Half for Sept and Revival for Oct. I just finished Dark Half last night and it was good - she has been having nightmares about it. We meet virtually (she's in NC) on Thur...
