Re: April: What are you reading?

Ro, I think I read at the same speed in both languages, but since I just can't NOT look up a word I don't know, I end up reading faster in Portuguese.

Re: April: What are you reading?

I finished Michelle Obama's book. I liked it, but I have to admit I found it much more interesting after she met Obama :crystal Then I started The Nix by what's his name... Nathan Hill? It'd been on my radar for a while. I almost gave up at the 15% mark or so (it's not really my style), but the plot...

Re: March - what are you reading?

Couldn't get into Winter Garden AT ALL. I got to 20%, but it was so boring! I don't care if the part about the siege of Leningrad was supposed to be great, I can read a history book about that if I'm interested. Then I read another book that sucked royally (yay, go me!), A Stranger in the House by S...

Re: March - what are you reading?

Couldn't get into Eligible. I have a hard time reading things whose endings I already know. That's why I rarely reread anything. Then I started Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. Everyone and their mother seems to have loved it, but she's hit and miss for me. I really liked The Nightingale. I liked Ni...

Re: March - what are you reading?

Finished Faking Friends. It was delicious! Apparently the author has this formula and keeps writing about deception and revenge. I don't know, but since it was my first one, I loved it.

Now I have the sample of Eligible.

Blush, that sounds like And then there were none!

Re: March - what are you reading?

Finished Nine Perfect Strangers. I liked it, but I agree with the masses that it's not her best. I just love her characters, always.

Then I started Faking Friends by Jane Fallon.

Re: March - what are you reading?

Ro, that book sounds bad :lol But it's good to know we have opposite tastes. The same thing used to happen with Mellen, and I totally took the books she hated as recommendations :awesome

Re: March - what are you reading?

I started Nine Perfect Strangers. At first I was saving it because I love her and it'll be at least a couple of years until there's a new one, then Niko had the stroke and I wanted to wait until the crisis was mostly over to fully enjoy it, then I started reading some terrible reviews. Well, so far ...

Re: March - what are you reading?

I just returned The Last Hours after getting to 41%. Great beginning, but got boring after that. Flat characters, not much happens. AND I found out it's the first of 2 books and has no ending. I'm not gonna read the next 300 boring pages only to NOT get to an ending of some sort! Not sure what's next.

Re: March - what are you reading?

Hope you find some time to read soon, Ro!

I finished the Harlan Coben. It was utter crap.

Then I decided The Last Hours (I think) by Minette Walters (I think). It's about the black plague! :awesome

Re: February! What are you reading?

What does "he doesn't plot" mean in a writing context? You mean he doesn't plan out the plot ahead of time? I finished Class Mom, it was OK. Now I'm reading a weird semi post-apocalyptic book I can't remember the name of. These people start off living in their car because there was an economic down...

Re: February! What are you reading?

My student wants to read Puddin' :paranoid I hope it's better than Dumplin'. But at least we'll read it slowly (3 chapters a week or so), so even if it sucks, I won't feel it.

Couldn't get into A Hundred Summers. I've picked up a Harlan Coben (Six Years).

Re: February! What are you reading?

Ugh, I hated Dumplin'. Ok, maybe hated is a bit too strong, but I found the characters uninspiring and thought there was NO plot. Everything that happens is in the blurb. I hope my student won't want to read Puddin' :paranoid I told her to read the sample and see what she thinks re: level of difficu...

Re: February! What are you reading?

My student HATED the movie! She said they totally ruined the book, eliminated characters, etc.

I told her about Puddin'. I think we'll read it together.

Re: February! What are you reading?

Finished Verity. 2 stars. It was gripping and I was going to give it 3 stars, but the twist was ridiculous. Totally unbelievable. I can't believe this book has 63% of readers giving it 5 stars on goodreads.

Then I started the sample of Dumplin' because my 13-year-old student liked it :D

Re: February! What are you reading?

After 257 samples I think I've finally settled on Verity by Colleen Hoover, which is supposedly dark and gripping. Not light and fluffy at all, but NOTHING was holding my attention last week, and I may be ready to move on.

Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Any book in particular by her, Blush? I've seen her name around, but have never read anything. Ro, Fiona Davis has been on my radar for a while, but her books are ridiculously expensive on kindle (the cheapest is US$18) for some reason. I'll keep checking, sometimes...
