Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?

I read the first 2 books in Elin Hilderbrand's Winter series and I'm not impressed. The first one was ok, the second one was boring. Now I don't know what to read. I'm still not in the mood for anything darker.

Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?

Finished The Rumor. Loved it. It had a Desperate Housewives vibe to it that I loved. Now I started Winter Street, the first in her Winter series.

Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?

You're absolutely right, Ro. I stopped trying to read what I "should" a long time ago. I don't know why I'm feeling guilty about reading something light especially at this moment in my life. I really, really can't handle anything darker right now. Not even a thriller if it involves gore. Certainly n...

Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?

Finished Winter in Paradise. I liked it overall, but it's the first in a trilogy and ends in a cliffhanger. The next book won't come out until October, which is annoying. Then I picked up another one by her, The Rumor. I used to be put off by her beach-y covers, but this is my third book by her and ...

Re: Best books you read in 2018?

I'll play: By far the best book of the year: The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne 4 or 5 stars: The Family Next Door by Sally Hepworth The Mother's Promise by Sally Hepworth Then She was Gone by Lisa Jewell The Secrets she Keeps by Michael Robotham The War I Finally Won by Kimberly Brubaker Br...

Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?

I finally finished the Jill Mansell after 2 weeks, but let's focus on the fact that I was able to finish a book! Jill Mansell is verrrry light reading (she reminds me of Maeve Binchy), so it was just what I needed. Then I started a sample of an Elin Hilderbrand (Winter in Paradise?). I like it so fa...

Re: December! What are you reading?

I might try that, Ro. Thanks for the suggestion! The last couple of days I've read 43 pages, yay! I just couldn't focus before and never read more than 2 pages, tops.

Re: December! What are you reading?

When the stroke hit us on Nov 24th I was at 72% in The Possible World. I wasn't loving it, ended up giving it 3 stars, but I'll remember forever that I was reading this damn book when our lives were turned upside down. I kinda feel sorry for the author. It took me more than 2 weeks to finish the rem...

Re: November?! What are you reading?

Finished Evelyn Hugo. Opinion remains: liked it, didn't love it. A solid 7. I think my main problem with it was that I didn't like the main character much. Then I read All We Ever Wanted by Emily Giffin. A page-turner, I thoroughly enjoyed it. And now I've just started The Possible World by Liese O'...

Re: November?! What are you reading?

Don't worry, Ro. I saw that the average goodreads rating for Nine... is 3.7, so clearly you're not the only one who's disappointed. I do think she has a loyal readership who expects too much from her. I've given 5 stars to THREE of her books. That's a record for me and I'm sure at some point she'll ...

Re: November?! What are you reading?

Ro, I read about The Winters in one of the facebook book groups I belong. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It could either go super well or horribly badly :? But I'm certainly curious. Nine Perfect Strangers will probably be my next read! I love Liane and have been counting the days 'till its relea...

Re: November?! What are you reading?

Ooh, I loved What She Knew!

I'm still rereading Rebecca. I'm really not much of a rereader. I get impatient because I know where it's headed. But if you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.

Re: October! What are you reading?

The Dream Daughter did not go where I thought it was going, yay! It was a bit trashy, as usual, but very engrossing. Now I'm rereading Rebecca. It's my third time. First time was at 16, second early 30s, now late 40s. So about every 15 years. I must be addicted to contemporary fiction, because I'm f...

Re: October! What are you reading?

Finished In Her Shadow. It was entertaining, but terribly far-fetched. I'm not giving up on him, but why can't today's mystery writers come up with slightly more believable plots? Sigh. Then I started The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain. I'm always promising I'll never read another book by her (...

Re: October! What are you reading?

I read Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid a few days ago. I LOVED it. It's a novella, you read it in less than an hour.

Then I started In Her Shadow by Mark Edwards. Very gripping, as was the other book I read by him, Follow You Home. I should finish that today or tomorrow.

Re: October! What are you reading?

Hey guys! I haven't updated in a while, so let's see. I finished the Brazilian history one, it was interesting. Then I read The Suspect by Michael Robotham, the first in the Joseph O'Loughlin series. It was good. Then I read a Brazilian period romance that kinda sucked, then An Offer From a Gentlema...
