I think it only means that the stories are set in/around Manawaka.
In other news, I got $75 in book gift certificates for Christmas.

Re: It's December - What are you reading?
April - huh, I'm not sure. I didn't know they were packaged as a series. :headscratch I'm actually in my sister's room right now and she's got three of them (The Diviners, A Jest of God, and Fire-Dwellers - I've only read The Stone Angel and the Diviners) Anyway, there are no numbers on her books. Y...

I'm reading Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman. It's pop culture essays, and I quite like it.
My new year's "readolution" is to read more fiction, and I can't believe I'm saying that. I've just been reading so much non-fiction.

I'm reading a book of Jann Arden's journals. She's awesome, her writing is very good for the heart.

Re: It's November - What are you reading?
I'm reading this adorable book that I think you guys would love (yes, even you Silvia :giggle ) It's called "Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader" and it's these little essays about things that readers do: proofread restaurant menus, read mail-order catalogs when there's nothing else ...

I'm reading Madame Bovary by Flaubert, and the second Gossip Girl novel. Holy, opposite ends of the reading spectrum.

Yes, I read the Namesake a while ago! I liked that one too. I liked the short stories better, but everything she writes is stinking brilliant.
I wanted her newest one to come out in paperback so I can buy it.

But we don't say "plains", we say "prairies."
(on reflection, I hope that doesn't sound snotty. )
Anyway, good book!

I know. I thought we agreed on Jhumpa Lahiri but that was like the only one EVER.
As long as you buy my book (if I ever write one) and tell me you like it (even if you don't), we're all good.

Only about 150 pages in. Did you read "The Autograph Man"? Everyone says that's her weakest, but I'll probably get to it eventually...

Re: It's July - Whatcha Readin?
I loved that book, Anna! I'm so sad that Ann-Marie Macdonald doesn't write much anymore. :( I've decided that I function best (whatever that means) when I have a classic fiction, a modern fiction, and a non-fiction on the go at the same time. I think the English student in me got used to reading man...

Don't laugh at me! I picked up a book called "The Shy Single", because geez eff, I need to do something to fix this situation. I don't think it's necessarily just about dating, but social confidence in general. Here's hoping...
