Re: November
Finished Last One at the Party. Really enjoyed it! I could have used fewer mentions of assorted bodily fuids, and at first the protagonist was so stupid I wanted to shake her, but still, it was very gripping and I'm glad I found it. Not sure what's next. Spudd, I hated that book, but the whole world...
Re: November
Do you like Our Missing Hearts, Blush? I started it, but couldn't get into it. Might have read 30 pages? I don't remember. I loved The Good Part. Will definitely read others by her. Started The Last One at the Party by Bethany Clift. It's post-apocalyptic and I love it so far. Only 30 pages in or so...
November
Could not get into Billy Summers, or into several other books I tried after it. Then I settled on a Freida McFadden. The sequel to The Housemaid, The Housemaid's Secret. Her books are so trashy they're fun. You know, like those old trashy horror movies. Except they're thrillers. They're good for get...
Re: October
Finished No Exit. It was passable. I gave it 2.5 stars. I might read Stephen King's Billy Summers next.
Re: October
I finished Better than the Movies, which was adorable. Then I read The Pact by Sharon Bolton, which was pretty good until 30 pages from the end, which was not only far-fetched, it was also not very explained at all. It made zero sense. Then I read The Dead Romantics, which didn't work for me at all....
Re: October
I loved Today Tonight Tomorrow. Now I'm reading yet another rom-com and also enjoying it, Better than the Movies by Lynn Painter. So apparently I do still enjoy rom-coms. I'd just been picking up the wrong ones (for me.)
Re: October
I finished Spoiler Alert, which was pretty good but also pretty devastating. Then I read a rom com that actually worked for me, See You Yesterday by Rachel Lynn Solomon. Then I started several books that didn't grab me (I should get credit for pages read or something) and ended up picking up another...
Re: September
The City and the Stars was ok. Very cool world building if you consider when it was written (1956 or so), but the plot was underwhelming.
Now I'm 55% into Spoiler Alert: the hero dies and I'm completely absorbed.

Re: September
Rowan, if you liked it the first time I'm sure you'll be fine. I haven't touched it since I last posted here. I finished Homeland. It was ok, but I didn't love it. Interesting to know more about the Basque Country and ETA, but I found the non-linear plot a bit exhausting. It goes round and round in ...
Re: September
Haha! I think you told me that the previous time, Spudd! The thing is, it IS a great story, but I'd happily read an abridged version if someone recommended a good one. I loved the mini series with Gérard Depardieu back in the 90s.
Re: September
I also set a goodreads challenge for myself, but it's more so that goodreads can count how many books I've read in a certain year. Otherwise I don't think it does. I set mine at a reasonable number, and it's never really a challenge, it's just my average. That said, I'd probably be annoyed if I didn...
Re: August!
Ooh, I loved The Light Pirate! I also loved her previous one, have you read it? Spudd, I totally rate books on how much I enjoyed them, no matter how lame :lol I've read a bunch of Brazilians this month, none of which have been translated into English. From English language authors I've just read Ho...
Re: August!
I finished My Name is Anton. It was ok, 3 stars. I wasn't a fan of her writing in this one. Then I read a hyped Brazilian one I hated. Now I'm reading another Brazilian I'm enjoying. None of which are likely to be published in English.
Re: July!
I'm glad I gave up on Daisy Jones, Spudd. Hope your next read is better!
Re: July!
Finished the Kristan Higgins. Loved it. Then I read Stay by Catherine Ryan Hyde. A bit sappy like apparently all her books, but it worked for me. 4 stars. I started another one by her, My Name is Anton.
Re: July!
I finished Station Eleven a few days ago and loved it. So good! Now I'm reading Daisy Jones and the Six. I hate it so far. Has anyone read it? Does it get better? Like if I hate the beginning will I hate the whole thing? Agree with you on both counts! So glad you loved Station Eleven! I've read it ...
Re: July!
Read the new Isabel Allende, The Wind Knows my Name. Loved it, as usual. Though I'm intrigued as to why her books keep getting shorter and shorter. This one was only 258 pages. I wonder if it's some kind of pressure from the market for shorter books? Because everyone's attention span is so short? Id...
Re: July!
Finished Jurassic Park. I liked it, but didn't love it. 3 stars. I might have loved it if I'd read it when it first came out. I thought it dragged a little. Then I read a book by a French author called Virginie Grimaldi. It was nice for a change of scenery, but it's one of those feel-good books that...
Re: July!
Oh, I love Station Eleven! The show is crap, forget about it. I couldn't even finish it. They changed EVERYTHING
Re: July!
I finished Connie Willis's Blackout. Ugh, people were not kidding when they said it has no ending. The book doesn't finish, it simply stops in the middle of a scene. I will not be reading the next one. It had some of my favorite things in fiction (time travel, world war 2), but it was so painfully s...
