Re: October! What are you reading?

I'm still reading "The Ship of Brides" by Jojo Moyes. It's all right. I'm not emotionally invested in the characters and I'm halfway in.

I've also started Michael Moore's "Here Comes Trouble". It's really good.

Re: October! What are you reading?

I finished "What Alice Forgot" by Liane Moriarty last night. I would recommend it. Now I have a book by Jojo Moyes; something about Australian war brides. I seem to be having an Australian month. Also in book news, R found an application that will display epub files on my PlayBook. (It cam...

Re: September already! What are you reading?

I have started a few books and didn't finish them. One was "Next" by James Hynes (hated the main character) and "All he ever wanted" by Anita Shreve (ditto).

Now I'm reading What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. I'm 4 chapters in and loving it.

Re: September already! What are you reading?

I finished The Continuity Girl. It got a little...busy in the middle but it was still good.

Now I'm reading Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes. Also I have "Next" a novel by James Hynes.

September already! What are you reading?

I am about a third of the way into "The Continuity Girl" by Leah McLaren. It's good so far.

Re: It's August - what are you reading?

I am (a bit surprisingly) really enjoying the Rob Lowe book. I never really paid much attention to him but his story is interesting.

Re: It's August - what are you reading?

I finished the Jill Mansell and it was quite good. Tidy ending.

Next up is Rob Lowe's book.

Re: It's August - what are you reading?

I finished the Kate Morton book before I left on holiday and I loved it. I will have to look for her others. On holiday I took Freya North's "Chances". It was a good beach read. Then I read "Sea Glass" by Anita Shreve, which dealt with the start of the Great Depression. I loved i...

Re: It's August - what are you reading?

On the weekend I read a Cathy Kelly book; it was unremarkable and I forget the name. Then I read Shania Twain's memoir, "From This Moment On", which I finished in a day. It was great. Now I'm reading Kate Morton's "The Distant Hours". I'm trying to finish it before we leave on Sa...

Re: July! What are you reading?

I finished my Jane Green book last night and started on one by Cathy Kelly, of Irish chick-lit fame. I can't make my brain work too hard in this heat.

Re: July! What are you reading?

I'm currently reading a Jane Green book called "A Promise to Keep". Normally I end up liking her stuff because I can relate to the characters but it's always a bit of a slog to get into. She writes conversations that would never happen in real life (well, in my life anyway) in order to get...

Re: July! What are you reading?

That Jodi Picoult one did not grab me. But nothing is grabbing me lately; maybe my mind is just too full of other stuff. I started "Lies That Chelsea Handler Told me" and maybe it's because I never watch the show or know who any of these people are but I'm not enjoying it. Each chapter is ...

Re: July! What are you reading?

Malanee, good to hear about Chelsea Handler; I just picked that up today.

I'm almost done with the Jodi Picoult one from 1990; something with whales in the title. It's all right.

Re: June: What are you reading?

I just started Jodi Picoult's "Songs of the Humpback Whale". I've only read three of her other books; this one just happened to be at the library. So far it's good.

Re: June: What are you reading?

I finished Bossypants and I loved it; it was just what I needed.

Now I'm reading Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart and, well, I'm 47 pages in and I'm not sure about this thing yet.

Re: June: What are you reading?

I finished Cutting for Stone and am glad that I made it through but it really didn't grab me like it should have. Now I'm reading Bossypants by Tina Fey and it's AWESOME. One of her theories is that blond hair is so worshipped in our society that you could 'put a blond wig on a water heater and some...

Re: June: What are you reading?

Sil, the story itself is good, but it's all the medical jargon that's getting to me. I'm skipping over descriptions left right and centre.

Cutting for Stone is SO BORING. I am determined to finish it though. I have Bossypants as my reward when I'm done. ;)

June: What are you reading?

I hate to admit this, but I just read "American Outlaw" by Jesse James. He is a dickwad, but now I understand some of the reasons he's a dickwad. Now, to feel more wholesome, I am reading "Cutting for Stone" by Abraham Verghese. I'm on page 60 or so. It's taking a while to get in...

Re: May! What are you reading?

I finished "So Much Pretty". After the initial draw it seemed to bounce between too many narrators to be cohesive. I didn't really get sucked in until the halfway point. But it was good, and made me think. Next I have "This Cake is for the Party" by Sarah Selecky. It's a book of ...
