Re: May! What are you reading?

I have never read Reliable Wife. I've read "A Wife's Tale" and "American Wife" and "Husband and Wife", all of which I would recommend. So far "So Much Pretty" is pulling me in. This is a good thing; I was beginning to think I was becoming despondent about books.

Re: May! What are you reading?

I finished "Fly Away Home" by Jennifer Weiner and it was meh. I just didn't care much for the characters. That's happening a lot to me lately; maybe I'm just going through a bitchy phase. I also read "The Book of Even More Awesome" by Neil Pasricha. It was good, but I found a lot...

Re: May! What are you reading?

I'm still slogging through "Very Valentine" by Adrianna Trigiani. I feel like I should finish because I'm developing a bad habit of dropping books but it's not great. ETA: Ok I finished it. Not impressed. Shallow character development, glossing over major events in plot. Blech. Now I've go...

Re: April! What are you reading?

I finished The Foursome today. Yawn. Now I have The Four Mrs. Bradwells by Meg Waite Clayton. I'm expecting a bit of fluff but we'll see. Edit: Ok, not fluffy; I got my authors confused. This is about 4 middle aged women who went to law school together. At the beginning of the book one of them is be...

Re: April! What are you reading?

Malanee, I loved The Help.

I'm still slogging through Foursome by Jane Fallon. It's not gripping but just interesting enough to keep me going.

Re: April! What are you reading?

I gave up on the Adriana Trigiani biography. I just wasn't that interested in what her grandmothers wore and there wasn't enough general history tied in to make it compelling. Now I'm reading "Foursome" by Jane Fallon. I have read "Getting Rid of Matthew" and liked it. I didn't r...

Re: Anyone read We need to talk about Kevin?

I was also surprised that Franklin was dead; I remember having to put the book down and let that sink in while I went over it in my head. I also didn't buy that he was such an evil baby. What baby is evil? I brushed off the fact about her wanting another baby because my own maternal instincts seem t...

Re: Anyone read We need to talk about Kevin?

I'd love to discuss it but I don't know if I remember enough of it to bring much value to the discussion. The scenes that stay with me are the ones in the gym, and the realization at the end about the entirety of the book.

Re: April! What are you reading?

I finished The Road today. I couldn't put it down but ultimately I was a bit disappointed. I was riveted but I wanted to know what HAPPENED to cause the world to be the way it was. I feel like I'm whining that I don't wanna use my imagination but geez. I'm about to start "Don't Sing at the Tabl...

Re: March! What are you reading?

Spudd, who's the narrator of Room? I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. The short sections are pulling me through but I'm afraid of what's going to happen. Also I have it because my former co-worker gave it to me and said she didn't want it back. I've been reluctant to start it because how good ...

Re: March! What are you reading?

Hey all, I finished The Confession by John Grisham before we left. Standard John Grisham. On holiday I read: The Bright Forever by Lee Harper. This was the first of his I read and I really liked his writing style. It wasn't flowery but conveyed emotion well. Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchy. I like t...

Re: March! What are you reading?

I finished "I think I love you" by Allison Pearson last night; it was cute but didn't really make me "feel" anything. Maybe if I had ever had a huge crush on a teen idol I might have been more invested in the story. Now I've got "The Confession" by John Grisham. I'm hop...

Re: March! What are you reading?

Ok, I've given up on The Glass Castle. I got halfway through it but I was dreading reading it. I think I just need something lighter, so I'm going to start "I think I love you" by Allison Pearson tonight.

Re: March! What are you reading?

Now I'm reading "Words the Dog Knows" on Beverly's recommendation. So far I'm really enjoying it, I've laughed out loud several times. And it's Canadian! I'm always surprised when someone who's not Canadian recommends a book I've never heard of, and it turns out to be Canadian. I *think* ...

Re: March! What are you reading?

I've decided to give up on Five Quarters of the orange. I just can't get into it. I've started The Glass Castle (memoir) and I think it's going to be really depressing. But when I'm finished that I have "I think I love you" by Allison Pearson.

Well, Five Quarters of the Orange is not grabbing me at all. I also picked up The Glass Castle at the library this week so we'll see.

Re: February - what are you reading?

I just finished "A Geography of Arrival" by George Sipos. It was neat to see my city though the eyes of a young boy in the 50's and 60's.

Last night I started "Five Quarters of the Orange" by Joanne Harris. I think she also wrote Chocolat.

Re: February - what are you reading?

I'm almost done Rescue by Anita Shreve. I have not been that impressed. Next up is The Geography of Arrival: A Memoir by George Sipos. It's by a man who immigrated to my city (and Spudd's hometown) as a child and his experience. It's only 152 pages and is nominated for an award so I'm looking forwar...

I read it a few years ago and I loved it. It's one of those books that I still think about sometimes.

Re: February - what are you reading?

I finished the Russell Peters autobiography. It was interesting but he should stick to comedy and not writing.

Now I'm reading the newest Anita Shreve; I can't remember the name of it.
