Re: May! What are you reading?
Beverly, yes, I did read The Little Stranger and found it pretty good too. Funny, because I usually hate books with no clear explanation of things, but this one turned out great! I finished Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner and it was the first book by her that I didn't like. She always manage...

Re: April! What are you reading?
Yes, Bugsy, there are lots of fans around here! I hope you like it, but don't watch the movie. It SUCKS. I finished The Post-Birthday World and I did like parts of it, but it was too long and rambly. One of those cases where you'd have a much better book had it been 2/3 shorter. Now I'm reading Jenn...

Re: April! What are you reading?
Rowan, I just read the first snooker bit and I had no idea what she was talking about, so I skipped whole paragraphs too. But I was finding it slow BEFORE the snooker parts started! Ugh, we'll see.

Re: April! What are you reading?
Silvia, I really liked the Post-Birthday World. Hope you do too. I've cut out all fun reading until July after I've (hopefully) passed my exam. :( Rowan, I'm not very impressed so far, but I don't dislike it, so I'll keep reading. Some readers thought Kevin was a slow starter too (though I didn't),...

Re: Anyone read We need to talk about Kevin?
Not just evil, he was just not interested in anything. What baby is not interested in anything? They're interested in EVERYthing! I just didn't buy that a NORMAL baby/toddler (of normal intelligence, that is) would be that apathetic (is that a word?). I wouldn't question her desire to have another b...

Re: Anyone read We need to talk about Kevin?
OK, SPOILERS FROM NOW ON: I totally Did NOT see that Franklin was dead. I totally thought he'd left her after Thursday because she'd been such a bad mother. I suspected Celia might be dead though, because Eva never saw her. Only talked about her in the past. And she said "if only I'd been able ...

Re: April! What are you reading?
I just finished We need to talk about Kevin, which I'm sure will stay with me for a long time, and I think I'm gonna start The Post-birthday World by the same author. Anyone read it?

Re: Anyone read We need to talk about Kevin?
Finished it. Holy powerful book. Check this out: "This is all I know. That on the 11th of April, 1983, unto me a son was born, and I felt nothing. Once again, the truth is always larger than what we make of it. As that infant squirmed on my breast, from which he shrank in such distaste, I spurn...

Re: March! What are you reading?
Question: For those who've read The Girl Who.... series, how long did it take to get into the first book? I've tried a couple of times but just can't get far into it. I want to read them because people have loved them so much but I keep getting stuck. Thoughts? As far as I remember, I got into it r...

Re: Anyone read We need to talk about Kevin?
I'm loving it. Well, as much as you can "love" a book about a psycho whose mother didn't want/love him. I'm finding it very gripping. I'm 80 pages from the end. I agree that her style is not easy. Her long sentences and sometimes seemingly pointless side stories get on my nerves sometimes....

I'm reading We need to talk about Kevin http://www.amazon.com/We-Need-Talk-About-Kevin/dp/006112429X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1300311391&sr=1-1 , and while her style gets on my nerves sometimes (too "literary", sometimes I wanna shake her to make her get to the point), I'...

Re: March! What are you reading?
Blush, The Glass Castle *is* really depressing, and I thought it was going to be one of those books that stay with you forever, but I've forgotten most of it, so I guess not. Rowan, I hope the book funk ends soon. I hate when that happens. If I ever finish World without End I'll come play with you g...

Yeah, me too, but it's my only luxury, so f-it. At least I can say to myself that I'm improving my English. What's your excuse?

Re: February - what are you reading?
Beverly, do you also have to buy all the books you wanna read in English? I hate that . There's a library that belongs to an English school near here, but I'd have to pay for parking there, so I think it's worth buying whatever I want in paperback.

I thought you'd read it, Blush, but I wasn't sure. Cool! I think I'll try to get a copy.
Thanks!

Anyone read We need to talk about Kevin?
When I first read the reviews a while ago I thought it was not for me (WAY too disturbing), but someone on my parenting board was raving about it yesterday, saying she was up until 2 am to finish it. Very few things in life would make me stay up until 2 am, so I was curious.

Re: February - what are you reading?
Ruth, I almost picked up Cutting for Stone at the store the other day. Now I'm sorry I didn't! Spudd, holy crap, only 3 weeks to get through Pillars? It took me 3 months! Of course I had a 2-year-old and a translation job at the time which I could only do when said 2-year-old was asleep, but still! ...

Re: February - what are you reading?
Ew, that is kind of gross. I read the first 3-4 pages at the store the other day, and it seems interesting enough, but they didn't have it in paperback yet.
