Re: July!

Finished Jurassic Park. I liked it, but didn't love it. 3 stars. I might have loved it if I'd read it when it first came out. I thought it dragged a little. Then I read a book by a French author called Virginie Grimaldi. It was nice for a change of scenery, but it's one of those feel-good books that...

Oh, I love Station Eleven! The show is crap, forget about it. I couldn't even finish it. They changed EVERYTHING :angrywife

Re: July!

I finished Connie Willis's Blackout. Ugh, people were not kidding when they said it has no ending. The book doesn't finish, it simply stops in the middle of a scene. I will not be reading the next one. It had some of my favorite things in fiction (time travel, world war 2), but it was so painfully s...

Re: June!

I started Blackout by Connie Willis last night. It's the third in the Oxford Time Travel series. Spudd, I thought you'd read this, but it doesn't show on goodreads. Have you? I absolutely LOVED Doomsday Book (book 1), but couldn't get into To Say Nothing of the Dog (book 2), so I'm curious. I like B...

Re: June!

That is pretty impressive, Spudd! Where was I? I tried to read Hello, Beautiful, but gave up after 80 pages or so. Not my thing. Then I read Gravity, a sci-fi thriller by Tess Gerritsen, and then The Locked Door, another thriller by Freida McFadden. I liked them both. Freida McFadden is my new guilt...

Re: June!

I read The Retreat by Mark Edwards. His plot resolutions are ridiculously far-fetched, but they work for me. It was my third and I'll probably read more by him.

Not sure what's next.

Re: June!

I finished The Maid's Diary. It was ok. 3 stars. Then I read Book Lovers, which I hated. Maybe I should accept that romance is not for me. At least not without another element to add spice (a period in history or time travel, for example). I found it boring, draggy, whiny, predictable. Not sure what...

Re: May!

Yes, glad you liked Lessons in Chemistry, Spudd. And glad you liked Every Summer After, Blush. I finished Lovely Girls. It was entertaining enough, not memorable. 3 stars. Now I'm about 55% through another thriller that's just ok so far: The Maid's Diary by Loreth Ann White? I think that's her name....

Re: May!

Oh, that book is on kindle unlimited in Portuguese, Blush, and I heard someone raving about it, so I might pick it up. Also, unless it's something REALLY good, I never remember any plots :crystal I finished Just a Regular Boy. It was as mushy as expected, but still a good story, if a bit unrealistic...

Re: May!

I finished All the Broken Places. Loved it. Highly recommend. Now I'm reading Just a Regular Boy by Catherin Ryan Hyde. I'm on page 102 and so far I'm finding it very gripping. I hope it doesn't get impossibly mushy later on. This woman's the author of Pay it Forward, which became a movie with that ...

Re: May!

I gave up on Rendezvous with Rama almost right away. It wasn't holding my interest.

Then I started All the Broken Places by John Boyne, the sequel to The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. I'm only on page 75, but I like it so far.

Re: April!

Finally finished Homecoming. OMG, it was LONG. I mean, objectively, it's not that long at 560 pages. But it FELT long. It was so, so slow. Chapters and chapters where nothing happens, it's just descriptions of places and mundane details about people's lives. At about 150-200 pages I started to scrat...

Re: April!

I really liked The Soulmate too, Rowan! She never disappoints. Blush, glad you liked Lessons in Chemistry! It was one of my favorites last year, too. Then I started the new Kate Morton, Homecoming. I'm thoroughly enjoying it, as usual, but it's a slow burner, also as usual for her. 560 pages, I'm ab...

I don't have Apple, sadly.

Finished the new Jojo Moyes. I agree, it was just ok, Rowan.

Now I have The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth.

Re: April!

What do you mean you could see him plotting? I liked Jacob. Didn't love it, but I do remember the ending, which is more than I can say about 98% of the books I read, so there's that. I haven't seen the show.

Oh, I loved Lessons in Chemistry!

Rowan, I saw that you found the new Jojo only ok. We'll see. I'm only about 50 pages in, but I'm enjoying it. I usually love her stuff. Except for the last one, the one about the horseback library. I found it boring. I also have the new William Landay on my list!

April!

I read the new one by Brazilian writer Martha Batalha, but didn't love it like her previous 2, sadly.

Then I started the new Jojo Moyes.

Re: March!

I read A Fall of Moondust by Arthur C. Clarke, which was entertaining enough if you enjoy sci-fi. It was incredibly sexist, though, which hurt my 21st century ears. I know it was written in 1960, but the man was writing sci-fi set in about 2040. He should have taken that into consideration. Then I r...

Re: March!

I finished The Surrogate Mother, which was a bit more ridiculous than the other 2 I'd read by her (Freida McFadden), but still fun. Then I read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, which had an interesting premise, but was way too long, with very little happening in the second half. Now I'm going to h...

Blush, if I'm remembering right, I thought 9 lives was way too many to keep track! That book didn't work for me.
