I'm re-reading Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert A. Heinlein. Love that book. I've probably read it 5 times. I looked at our book club list and I'm going to skip the next book (Odd Girl Out). It doesn't look like anything that would interest me. Oh, and on audio I'm listening to "A Walk in ...

I re-read the relevant bits. I don't think she painted it out of shit, but I think it kind of smelled like shit because she had the runs so bad when she was painting. And yep, all the old people on the island had massive life insurance policies - so that's how the younger generation became rich from...

I never thought of the chair painting being made of poo. Why did you think that, Ruth? I'm gonna have to look up that section and re-read it. Crystal, I agree, I didn't really get how it would bring fortune to the island. I thought the point was more to get rid of all the damn tourists. I thought th...

Sure.

At first I wasn't that into the book, but then it started getting really interesting about half-way through. I thought the style was kind of irritating though - talking to her comatose husband the entire time.

I am dying to know what she painted.

Silvia, I loved Bag of Bones too. It was so enthralling. I'm glad Stephen King has matured.

What books have you read that you couldn't put down? * The Kite Runner * The Time Traveler's Wife * I'm sure there are others but I'm blanking out right now. What books have you read that you agonized through and just barely finished? * I have to have actually finished for this question? I don't thi...

Me too. I'm just about done, actually. I just noticed last night that in his author's photo, Chuck looks a lot like Jeff Probst. LOL.

At first I wasn't that into it but as it's reaching the climax it's quite gripping.

Silvia, because she's from Costa Rica, same reason yours is spelled with an i (well, not Costa Rica, but you know what I mean).

I feel sorry for her having to visit Toronto in March. At least it's not January. ;)

Silvia, I was supposed to have a meeting with someone named Silvia today, but she called me half an hour late for a 45 minute meeting, so I bailed. She is the bane of my existence. But don't worry, I won't take it out on you.

I almost said "holy cow!" to a Hindu the other day. Oopsy. I should really try to remove that from my vocabulary. I learned in a corporate training that it's actually an offensive statement to Hindus. I can't think of any good answers to this poll, except for "hawesome", which Wi...

I just finished The Jane Austen Book Club. I enjoyed it but I felt like it was too short. There wasn't much to it.

Next I need to read Diary for book club.

Poor you! That sounds like it was awful. I can't imagine how you've managed to put up with her for so long. Do you have your daycare all lined up for when she leaves? She sounds like such a drama queen. Bleah!

2 weeks, 5 days, and counting! (or whatever the real count is :lol)

You know, those questions I posted are really too deep for me. I feel like I"m in English class. I guess everyone else feels the same way - cause nobody's answered them except Ruth who took a decent stab. I love the idea of book club, and that it's getting me to read new and interesting books I...

I also will have to think about these questions later when I have the book.

My favorite story was the one with the power outages. I really liked it. I was not expecting the ending at all, but I liked how she took us there.

Here are some questions I found - we don't have to answer them all or anything, but I thought they might give us some ideas. 1. What kinds of marriage are presented in the stories? One reviewer has written that Lahiri's "subject is not love's failure, ... but the opportunity that an artful spou...
