Ruth, Love in the Time of Cholera is one of my favorite books ever. Are you enjoying it?

I'm reading The History of Love. I'm only on page 22, but so far I'm loving her style. I think it'll live up to the hype! Has anyone read it?

I finished The Piano Tuner, which bored me to tears ( I even finished it in 2 100-page sittings. I hate to do that, I usually like to savor my books, but I just wanted to get it over with), and now I'm reading When Nietzsche Wept, and loving it!

Yeah, I knew a girl who did the same thing. But she *did* know she was pregnant. I think she was just afraid of telling her parents, and she didn't get big at all, and one day she started having bad "cramps" and her parents took her to the hospital, and she had a baby. Then the whole famil...

Oh, so when someone keys your car, don't get mad. They're communicating with it. But she's writing in her own books, not in someone else's. I agree with you, Crystal, but don't you think that's kind of personal? Lots of people like to write in books. People from chicklit do that too, and they're no...

Yeah, it looks good. I started yesterday, but read only about 5 pages before I passed out. A few Amazon reviewers said the first half is boring, but I don't necessarily trust their opinion.

The Piano Tuner

Has anyone read this? Ruth? I know someone mentioned it here, and I think it was you. Did you like it? I got it used the other day and I'm thinking of reading it next. Thoughts?

What books have you read that you couldn't put down? The Kite Runner, but only after page 70 or so Oracle Night by Paul Auster The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger Bag of Bones by Stephen King (shut up) Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, but only after 200 pages or so The House of the Spirits...

Indeed, several uniform, knee-high piles of books on the floor can become a table when topped by a piece of glass :lol I love that! But I don't keep books I didn't like anymore. I used to, but I decided there's just not enough room. If I've read it and wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it goes to th...

I finally finished Shantaram yesterday! :woohoo Such an irregular book. I loved parts of it, but others made me wanna cry of boredom because I'd have to get through them to get to the good parts again. Anyway, I based my next choice almost solely on length. After Shantaram's 936 pages, I wanted some...

Crystal, dh does the "I mean" thing ALL the time! It drives me insane! I've already told him a billion times to stop it. I'm glad I don't have to hear him speak English every day :lol .

Silvia, I was supposed to have a meeting with someone named Silvia today, but she called me half an hour late for a 45 minute meeting, so I bailed. She is the bane of my existence. But don't worry, I won't take it out on you. :lol Oh good. Why is her name with an i? And Aly, yeah, it's a threadjack...

ROFL! The "itch" vs. "scratch" thing is cracking me up. It's the same word for both in Portuguese. LJ, I'm sorry to inform you "alright" is a word. It's in my Cambridge dictionary. "Alot", however, is just bad English. And this: "you times it by three and...

Mine are all in Portuguese, but trust me, there are a lot.

Aly, I don't even *live* in an English-speaking country, and I'm sick and tired of the ones you mentioned.

Well, I haven't posted yet because I'm still reading Shantaram. I've been reading it since the beginning of February. It took me forever to get into it, and I'm a slow reader. I like it now, but I'm still on page 680 (of 936).
