The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.

But I'm still only 60% through Shantaram (it has 940 pages), and I wanna read something shorter after that (The Historian has 800+pages). I don't wanna commit to another super long book.

Hey Crystal, that's short stories, right? I'm not crazy about short stories, but I LOVED The Namesake, so I might give Interpreter... a try.

I'm reading Shantaram, the best novel ever written according to a lot of amazon reviewers and a bunch of other people. I hope they're right, since it's 940 pages long and I'm only on page 138! I found the beginning boring, but I find most books boring in the beginning, so we'll see.

He is very private about that kind of stuff. We definately do not have an open door policy like April and Jason! Some things are better off kept a mystery. I couldn't agree more. That's the ONLY mystery left after a few years after all :lol. I gotta say I'm jealous of all of you. You guys don't kno...

I finished The Namesake, which I loved, then I read Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor by Gabriel García Márquez, which was ok. Mellen, you're the one who loved it, right? I don't know, I think I'd be more interested in what happened after the truth was disclosed than in the shipwreck itself. Now I've ...

And oh yeah, Aly, I'm with you. I don't know how some people can read so fast. I love reading, but I'm a slow reader. I like to savor what I'm reading. Somebody here once said maybe I read slower when I read in English, but no, I timed it, and I'm just as slow in Portuguese. *shrug*

Don't you read in bed, LB? That's my favorite time.

Crystal, I read 26. Don't you get overwhelmed reading those posts on chicklit? Do you think people really read 140, 160 books a year? I don't know, sometimes I think they are just plain lying.

I hated Catcher in the Rye. I only read it a couple of years ago, but I think I'd probably have hated it when I was 16, too. I found it SO boring. And the protagonist is so annoying.

I'm reading The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. I like it, but there's not much of a plot so far. I like my books to have plots that keep me up later than usual. This one doesn't. But it's interesting. And it taught me what a lazy Susan is. No, it's not Spudd on a sedentary day. Do you guys use that term...

Read it, liked it, and don't remember a thing about it! I just lent it to my mom and she finished it and wanted to discuss it with me, but I didn't remember any of the things she mentioned.

You know what the beauty in all of this is? That she lives in UKRAINE, all the way across the ocean!

Now be a nice girl and give the lady back her grapefruit.

I loved Three Junes, Ruth. Let's see... I finished The Kite Runner a few days ago. You guys were right, it IS wonderful. I thought the beginning was a little slow, though. Then I finished The Romantic Movement by Alain de Botton. I started it about 2 months ago, was hating the main character and sto...

Ok, I'm on page 160 and I'm hooked now  . There was a dialogue in it that reminded me of you, Jax: a character was reading Wuthering Heights, and another one said "it's a sad story", to which the former replied "sad stories make good books". Hehe. I certainly agree with tha...

I bought Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor months ago and still haven't read it. I'll try to do it now that I'm on semi-vacation.

Not the top 5 of all time, but the ones that come to mind: The House of the Spirits - Isabel Allende - yeah, pretty horrible and depressing things happen in this one (including torture scenes that made me put the book down for a few minutes), but I was hooked from page 1. Doomsday Book - Connie Will...

Well, I don't usually read the book club selections, but that's because I wanna read whatever I want whenever I want. Book clubs seem like homework to me. I'm not sure what books you're referring to when you say "the types of books you guys read". I think we read a wide selection of books....
