Re: January! What are you reading?

Yesterday I started "A Brief History of 7 Killings" by Marlon James. So far it's sucked me in pretty effectively. I hope to have more reading time this afternoon.

Re: 2015 Reading Lists or Fave Reads?

Rowan, audiobooks totally count, IMO. This year I will be on Goodreads with you guys; at least that's the plan. I have a staycation next week and plan to convert my Word lists over to Goodreads and then just track my books and rating there going forward. These all got "5 stars": -Bodies of...

Re: December! What are you reading?

I perused "Nature Anatomy," which had lovely artwork. Listening to the audio book of "A Tale for the Time Being," by Ruth Ozeki. It's intriguing for sure. I've barely even opened "The Absolute Sandman" but may spend some time with that tonight.

Re: December! What are you reading?

Last week I started "8 Minute Meditation", I forget who it's by. It's an 8-week program to teach you to meditate, you do it for 8 minutes a day. So far it's going okay, I guess. I don't feel like it's working super well but the book says that's normal and not to worry about it. Yep, the p...

Re: December! What are you reading?

"Being Mortal" was excellent. I really recommend this one highly. Two library holds came in this week: a graphic novel by Neil Gaiman ("The Sandman") and "Nature Anatomy" by Julia Rothman. The former is huge, literally like a textbook. It's going to be an interesting ex...

Re: December! What are you reading?

I'm listening to the audiobook of "Being Mortal" by Atul Gawande. Loving it--I find myself nodding along in agreement quite a lot--but wishing it was narrated by the author. The reader is fine, but it's always nice when the author does it.

Re: December! What are you reading?

Yesterday I returned "Full Catastrophe Living" by Jon Kabat-Zinn to the library. I didn't finish it--got about 2/3 through--but didn't really feel a need to. It had decent content but was getting incredibly repetitive and wasn't a whole of of new information for me. Dan Harris's "10% ...

Re: November! What are you reading?

Finished "Wifey" and liked it. Her books are such easy reads. And then I started "Full Catastrophe Living" by Jon Kabat-Zinn. It's about mindfulness and was recommended by my therapist. I just barely started it last night, but it's good so far.

Re: November! What are you reading?

I finished "Grace" a week or so ago. It was decent, but something about the writing just seemed "off" to me. Not as good as "Bodies of Water," that's for sure. And now I'm about halfway through Judy Blume's "Wifey." I'd read it as a teenager, and wow...I knew ...

Re: October: what are you reading?

Ha sorry, I was on the plane and being instructed to go into airplane mode when I posted that. I liked it! It has interesting characters, whose lives overlap with one another, and it had a bit of that classic Judy Blume wrt adolescence. But this is for adults and felt as such. Honestly, it makes me ...

I finished "In the Unlikely Event" by Judy Blume last night. Will start "Grace" by T. Greenwood next.

Re: October: what are you reading?

So I am giving up on Amy's book. As much as I like her, this is just not doing it for me. Then good news came that Judy Blume's new book, "In the Unlikely Event," came in from Holds for me. :bunny I DL'd it last night but wasn't feeling well this morning and just wanted to zone out on my c...

Re: October: what are you reading?

I started "Yes Please" by Amy Poehler. I was desperate for something to take camping, and none of my holds were coming in. This was available. It's only ok so far. I've laughed a couple of times, but overall it's on the underwhelming end of the spectrum.

Re: September! What are you reading?

I finished "The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins. It was pretty decent. Certainly suspenseful and pretty good writing. I didn't love it, but it was fine. Not sure what's next.

Jason is loving "Pillars" and is now recommending it to everyone he talks to. :giggle

Re: September! What are you reading?

Ahh, so there are different books as well. I thought Shift and Dust were part of Wool, so yep those need to be added to my to-be-read list. Thanks for clarifying!

Re: September! What are you reading?

So...about Wool. It is something like 5 stories combined into one continuous story? Because I read the complete set (I think) in one sitting; it was packaged as "Wool Omnibus" or something like that. Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything of the story!

Re: September! What are you reading?

Our next book club book came in off my holds list, so I'm about 1/3 into "The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins. So far it's pretty gripping.

And Jason is loving "Pillars of the Earth" so far. I knew he'd like it! :smug

Re: September! What are you reading?

No updates on me (still reading stuff to prep for my exam), but I thought Silvia would be pleased to hear that I convinced Jason to read "Pillars of the Earth." He started it yesterday, and it sucked him right in. :)

Re: August, WTF? What are you reading?

I finished "10% happier" and really liked it. It feels like something I would read again. Now I probably, sadly, have to pause the pleasure reading to study for an industry certification exam that's in 5 weeks. I shouldn't have to study a ton but haven't done any formal prep until today, s...
