Oh that's cute. I have also heard something similar for pigeons.

Re: July! What are you reading?

In addition to "The Stone Angel," on Saturday I started a new book on audio (needed something to listen to on my drive to and from hometown). It's "The Jesus Cow" by Michael Perry. He's a Wisconsin guy, and as you may guess from the title, this is a quirky book. The story is only...

Re: July! What are you reading?

Finished "Sisterland" and did not love it. Once I got into the story it kept my attention, but there were many things that were just sooo unrealistic. Like her husband's reaction to her big news at the end? Ha! Seems unlikely. Anyway, I originally gave it 3 stars because at least it was in...

Re: Juin! What are you reading?

Just finished "Astonish Me," by Maggie Shipstead. It was a very quick read (good for my reading goal), but ultimately was just kind of boring. I liked her other book much more. I was going to start rereading Margaret Laurence's "The Stone Angel" but saw that "Sisterland,&quo...

Re: Juin! What are you reading?

Finished "All the Light We Cannot See" last night. Really liked the story, and since the chapters were short it didn't feel as long as it is. I found the writing to be just beautiful and also really cared about the main characters. Not sure yet what's next. Gotta choose soon, though; I'm a...

Re: Juin! What are you reading?

I finished the audiobook of "The Burgess Boys," by Elizabeth Strout. It was very good--sort of a family saga, intense at times, but complex and very well-written. I also liked "Olive Kitteridge" by the same author, which was amazing because I normally dislike short stories. Just ...

Re: May! What are you reading?

Finished "Quiet," and I loved it. 5 stars. Highly recommended.

I have "The Burgess Boys" by Elizabeth Strout on audio book for my drive to and from hometown today, and I also started "Tiger Eyes" by Judy Blume for a quick read.

Re: Leo funny - I think it belongs here.

Ha! What a cool observation to make; good job, Leo! It's awesome that so many of the TH kiddos are growing up with parents who enjoy reading for pleasure.

Re: May! What are you reading?

While camping thus past weekend I finished my book club's selection: "The Mermaid Chair," by Sue Monk Kidd. I can't quite decide how I feel about it. There was some really lovely writing throughout (even dog-eared a couple pages to write down the lines I liked most), but in the end...meh. ...

Re: April! What are you reading?

Not sure I've updated here recently! I have finished both "The Residence" (about the White House staff), which was pretty interesting, and just yesterday finished "Perks of Being a Wallflower." I liked it pretty well also, but I may be getting too old for some of these coming-of-...

Re: March! What are you reading?

On the bus I started "The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House" by Kate Andersen Brower. So far so good.

I've barely skimmed "I don't know what I want...."

Re: March! What are you reading?

Last night I finished "The Martian." I didn't love it, but it grew on me as it progressed. I found the first maybe 25% to be pretty slow, but then it picked up. Gave it 3 stars. Now I have "I Don't Know What I Want, but I Know it's not This" by Julie Jansen. Haven't started it ye...

Re: March! What are you reading?

Yesterday I finished "The Danish Girl." It was pretty good...didn't love it, but I'm glad I read it. Haven't started anything new yet, as it looks like a couple of holds are about to come in.

Edit: yep, both "The Martian" and a career advice book both came today.

Re: February! What are you reading?

Working through The Lazlo Letters, which I heard about briefly somewhere recently (Twitter maybe). Then there was a copy in my work break room that was up for grabs, so I took it. It's pretty odd but sort of funny. And A Brief HIstory of 7 Killings actually came in for me at the library, so I've tri...

I saw that you added it to a list on Goodreads, but that was the first I'd heard of it. Looks like a good read as well. Hope you're liking 10% Happier!

Re: January! What are you reading?

I finished "Big Little Lies" and liked it quite a bit. Her books are always such quick reads.

Haven't resumed "Brief History..." and not sure if I will now.

Re: January! What are you reading?

I am not particularly enjoying "A Brief History of 7 Killings," I'm sorry to say. I'm a bit more than 50% through it, and it's just kind of a slog to make myself read it. What sucks is that it's due back to the library tomorrow, I think, so I either have to pause to put it on hold again or...

Re: January! What are you reading?

Finished the audiobook for "A Tale for the Time Being" by Ruth Ozeki. She read it as well. It was a bit strange (lots is set in Japan), and the ending was kind of confusing, but I liked it.
