Re: September! What are you reading?
Mellen, I saw that you started It. I think I'm gonna give it a try. Despite the points I raised, I keep seeing videos of people raving about it, about how it's much more about the friendship between the kids and blah-blah-blah. I should see it for myself. Plus I liked 3 of the 4 of his books I've r...

Re: September! What are you reading?
I haven't, I'll have to look it up. I read The Perennials by Mandy Berman. It's about two girls that meet at a summer camp and then go back as young adult counselors. It sucked. Slow moving, and had roughly 3 chapters in the middle of the book about 4-5 completely new characters that are then never ...

Re: September! What are you reading?
Funny, Mellen, I was just reading reviews of It yesterday because a booktuber I watch was raving about it. However, someone on goodreads convinced me it's not for more. Animal torture, pre-teens raping other pre-teens? No, thanks. I agree with your points - not sure I'll finish it. It's more that I...

Re: September! What are you reading?
Finished Mrs. Fletcher by Tom Perrotta. It kind of sucked. The writing and the story.
I think I have decided to reread It by Stephen King since I keep reading articles about the movie. I read it a loooooong time ago when I was probably too young to read it.

Re: August, wtf?
Major reading slump going on here. Couldn't get into The Dying Game. Had a few other books from the library I just wasn't in the mood for. Hate it when I can't find a book I'm in the mood to read. Went to pick up some new holds last night and started Mrs. Fletcher by Tom Perrotta last night. I usual...

Re: August, wtf?
Finished The Fourth Monkey by JD Barker. It was good! Realized at that end it's a series or trilogy or something.
Started The Dying Game by Asa Avdic last night.

Re: August, wtf?
I am about a quarter of the way through The Fourth Monkey and I can't put it down. It's a murder/mystery/thriller type book. I hope the ending lives up to the beginning. Also started This is the Noise that Keeps Me Awake by the band Garbage. It's kind of a coffee table type book about how the band c...

Re: July already! What are you reading?
Finished two over the weekend: Final Girls by Riley Sager - it was a murder/thriller type book. It was fairly decent and I didn't figure out the ending ahead of time. It Happens All the Time by Amy Hatvany - Hated this book. The author tries to take on the issue of consent / rape and does a REALLY p...

Re: July already! What are you reading?
Sil, maybe you are right. I do find myself generally being annoyed with books with all kinds of hype here lately.
I finished The Spoonbenders by Daryl Gregory today. I LOVED this book. It was clever and funny. I'm sad I'm done with it.

Did I?! I don't remember liking it. Damn it, now I have to go read the blurb about it, maybe I'm thinking of another book.

Re: July already! What are you reading?
I think Into the Water is only getting the hype because The Girl on the Train was so successful, but I haven't read a single reviewer saying they loved it. I hated The Girl on the Train, so I might like this one :lol I wasn't impressed by The Girl on the Train at all so I'm not sure why I felt comp...

Re: July already! What are you reading?
I skim read Give a Girl a Knife by Amy Thielen - it was decent. Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud: The Rise and Reign of the the Unruly Woman by Anne Helen Petersen - Loved it. Somewhat repetitive at times but over all incredibly interesting and informative. Into the Water - Paula Hawkins - Meh. For all...

Re: July already! What are you reading?
Sil I refuse to even crack open a Jodi Picoult book at this point. They all make me mad I wasted my time. Finished The People We Hate at the Wedding by Grant Ginder - I really enjoyed it but think it's one of those books you need a certain sense of humor for, it's a bit crude at times and definitely...

Re: July already! What are you reading?
Finished:
The Widow of Wall Street - it was decent. Wanted to like it more than I did.
Follow Me Down - pretty good. The ending was a bit convoluted.
Now reading The People We Hate at the Wedding and loving it so far.

Re: June! What are you reading?
Sil I've gotten a lot better about abandoning books I don't like. I used to force myself to finish a book if I started. This was the final in a trilogy of books and I LOVED the first book. Kept hoping it would grab me but I pretty much hated every page!

Re: June! What are you reading?
Rowan, not weird. I get super excited when I get a brand new book at the library. Blush, I'm glad they found your book! I struggled to finish Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan. It has great reviews on Goodreads so I kept thinking it would get better but it never did for me. Now I'm reading The Wido...

Re: June! What are you reading?
Rowan, maybe because so many (pretty much all) of the characters were so unlikable? I couldn't put that book down but didn't necessarily LOVE it when I was done.

Re: June! What are you reading?
Finished two books over the weekend: The Fact of a Body: A Murder and a Memoir by Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich - it was really well written but so sad. The murder part was based on a true story, but it wasn't non-fiction. Skitter by Ezekiel Boone - second book in a trilogy to The Hatching. I enjoyed...
