I'm reading "Son of a Witch", aka the sequel to Wicked. (When I have time to read, that is, which is just on the subway lately...)

Re: It's April - what are you reading?
Now I'm working on The History of Love , which I bought solely because Crystal loved it and you didn't -- so far I'm on Crystal's side. :lol VINDICATION! :lol I liked Prayer for Owen Meany. "Simon Birch" was a travesty of a movie adaptation. I'm reading a giant Walt Disney bio, as well as...

Well, there's no point in me rating them, you'll just think the opposite. (I'm joking, this is our thing...)

Re: You show me yours I'll show you mine.
It didn't take me very long to finish Blind Assassin? Unless it was because I was busy or reading other books, but not in a slogging kind of way. And 84 was so cute! She had this great sense of humour (I love when he sent the Bible, and she was like "What kind of black Protestant witchery is th...

I'm not even going to tell you how I felt about "The Blind Assassin", so as not to skew you in the opposite direction.

Re: Discuss: Why do some authors get bad over time?
Because writing books is HARD. :lol Okay, that probably sounds glib, but I don't know. How many wholly original 300-page works can a person have inside them? I'm sure pressure from publishers and readers doesn't help either, because then they're just writing to get it out the door. Huh, interesting....

Re: You show me yours I
I haven't updated my booklist in forever, so it's looking pretty shameful. But I'm in the "What are you Reading?" forum every day. http://www.librarything.com/catalog/studio1 I'm going to pretend "84, Charing Cross Road" was my influence, and I hope you're going to read "Gre...

Re: Crystal, yoo-hoo! The History of Love
Hmm, I don't know specifically what you're thinking of... That the "author" of the book didn't write the book and Leo discovered it? That Alma's search for Other Alma led her to Leo? Or just the whole web of: Leo was in love with Alma who knew Zvi who took the book who never told Rosa who ...

Re: It
Oh my goodness, we are dangerously close to agreeing about a book! I have heard that the movie is way better. (Of course it is, it has Kate Winslet!)
I don't think I read "fast", just normal. But I have a lot of transit time to just sit on the subway with a book.

Re: It's March - what are you reading?
Do you like the book? Because then you know what I'm going to say about it given our previous discussions. ;) I finished it, but I found I didn't care about the characters. Which, for a book about the Holocaust, you would hope wouldn't be the case? One of these days we'll agree on a book, and I'll d...

Rowan - there's also a Canadian writer named Vincent Lam who wrote a novel about doctors in between his job as emergency room physician. And then it became a best-seller and won the Governor General's prize. Not that I'm completely jealous and bitter. :lol Where do people get that energy? I'm readin...

I just read Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. I don't understand... people on websites were raving about this book, but I thought Rachel was so moony and Darcy was such a cartoon villain. Meh.

Help me, I'm on a book binge! I just bought 2 books with my GC's, got 4 more books from the library, and am planning to take a load to the second-hand store this week to get more. (Watch, I'll take in 20 books and probably get... 3 in exchange. ) Right now I'm reading "84, Charing Cross ...

How many books did you read this year? (if you're into tracking that sort of thing) ~ 36, but I wanted to read 50. (get out of my head, Beverly!) What was your favourite book read this year? ~ On Beauty was great (seriously Beverly, out :lol ), but I also enjoyed the Charles Schulz bio, Ex Libris, a...

2008 Book round-up!
How many books did you read this year? (if you're into tracking that sort of thing)
What was your favourite book read this year?
Any stinkers?
Did you receive any books (or book-related items) for Christmas?
Do you have any "readolutions" for 2009?
