Re: It's September - Whatcha Readin?

Mellen and Beverly, waht time do you read? Before bed? That's what I've been doing since Leo was born, but I usually pass out after 5 pages or so. How do you guys read so much? I can't really read before bed, since Brynja goes to bed at the same time I do most nights. I read a lot when I'm nursing,...

Re: It's September - Whatcha Readin?

Right now I'm reading What Came Before He Shot Her by Elizabeth George. It's pretty good, like all her books are, but it's very sad and getting sadder by the page. I'm kind of regretting making the choice to read it. Just before this, I read The Road by Cormac McCarthy, and I sort of wish I'd spared...

Re: It's July - Whatcha Readin?

"On Beauty" by Zadie Smith. Oh, I thought that was a fantastic book! How far along are you? Me, I finished The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao , which was also excellent, but v. frustrating at points because there was so much Spanish (I had to rely on Kayley to translate for me a couple ...

I finished up On Beauty by Zadie Smith -- it was excellent. I also just finished Notes from a Big Country by Bill Bryson, which was good, too. Now I'm on to The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz.

Re: JUne now.. What you reading?

I did finish up A Thousand Splendid Suns , and it was an extremely good read. LB was right, it wasn't all tragedy and heartbreak (though there was plenty of that). I just got done reading The Good Husband of Zebra Drive , which is number 6 or 7 in the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. It was go...

Re: JUne now.. What you reading?

I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. It's good so far, but I'm already slightly regretting the decision to read it ... I just know that a lot of horrible things are going to happen and it will make me sad.

Last week I read a so-so chick lit called Farm Fatale by Wendy Holden. Now I'm reading About a Boy by Nick Hornby.

Re: Its April - what are you reading?

In the past week I read Predator by Patricia Cornwell and Celestial Navigation by Anne Tyler. Both were good, but the Anne Tyler book was unbearably sad, I thought. Most of her books have plenty of sadness, but happier endings, so I wasn't really expecting that. Now I'm on to The Full Cupboard of Li...

Re: Its March - what are you reading?

Oops, I've fallen behind on updating, too! (Seems I can find the time to read, but not to post about it! :lol) I finished up Black Dog , which was really good. Since then I've read The Guy Not Taken , a collection of short stories by Jennifer Weiner. It was okay, but not great. I like her stuff okay...

Re: Its March - what are you reading?

For the past week or two I've been working on Black Dog by Stephen Booth. It's a British detective novel, and so far it's really good, but I'm not getting the time I'd like to devote to reading it! I am liking it a lot, though, and I was thrilled to find out the other day that it's actually the firs...

Re: Its Feb - what are you reading?

I just finished Affinity ... wow, that was something! I'm not sure if I can really say I *liked* it, but it was good and well-written. Definitely one of those books that stays with you.

I've moved on now to something "lighter" -- a Jonathan Kellerman detective novel, Obsession. :lol

I haven't been able to read much in the past few days, but I've gotten started on Affinity by Sarah Waters. I've also read a few pages of 44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith.
