Re: It's March - what are you reading?

I finished A Change in Altitude by Anita Shreve and while I liked it, I felt like there wasn't much of a conclusion. Next up is Girls in White Dresses by Jennifer Close, which is "about a group of smart, funny, unapologetically grouchy, always hungover friends who kvetch their way through one a...

Re: It's March - what are you reading?

I finished Let the great world spin and it was just OK. I liked that it was centered around an event and that different people's connections to it, but I liked reading only some of the voices. Tillie, a prostitute, was the most gripping voice. Now I am reading Anita Shreve's "Change in Altitude...

Re: It's March - what are you reading?

Silvia, classics in general. I finished Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult. Are all her books the same basic plot: something happens to a kid, husband and wife think differently about it and it strains their relationship, then there's a trial and then husband and wife make up? Because I was predicting...

Re: It's March - what are you reading?

I'm finishing The Age of Innocence. I should start believing myself when I say I don't like the classics (even modern classics). The story line may be interesting, the characters well-developed, but the pace... oh God. I can't stand the never-ending social calls to 500 different characters througho...

Re: It's February - what are you reading?

I set "Let the great world spin" aside until I get back. I just read "The news where you are" by Catherine O'Flynn. It was about an aging news anchor in the UK. It was all right. Next is a Jodi Picoult book on my PlayBook. I'll decide which one later.

Re: It's February - what are you reading?

I did not finish Luca Spaghetti's book--boring.

Now I'm reading Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann and I'm loving it. His style is completely compelling.

Re: It's February - what are you reading?

I read Mindy Kaling's book and it was pretty good. Great if you need something light.

Next up is Luca Spaghetti's book.

I just got Mindy Kaling's book, "Is everyone hanging out without me?" So far I'm entertained.

Re: It's February - what are you reading?

I'm reading "Labour Day" by Joyce Maynard. It's ok. I'm kind of intrigued by the plot but I'm not feeling much for the characters yet.

Re: It's January - what are you reading?

I read something by John Grisham on my pb but I can't remember what...something old. When I got to the library I got an older Marian Keyes (Angels)--meh; a Joyce Maynard that I'm reading now (Labour Day), something by Anita Shreve and "Un Amico Italiano", a memoir by Luca Spaghetti, of Eat...

Re: It's January - what are you reading?

On this trip I've read less than usual but I did finish "The Hidden Garden" by Kate Morton. It was ok, but there are way too many coincidences in her books that neatly tie the story together. I also read Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood. It's the first book I've read on my PlayBook and I was...

Re: November! What are you reading?

I just finished The Queen of Palmyra this morning. It was told from the point of view of a young girl in Mississippi in the 60's. It was pretty moving, and there were interesting turns of phrase, which I always like. I'm sure I would have liked it even more if I'd read it when I don't have 4 million...

Re: November! What are you reading?

Well, I did find out that it is a county system, and I *can* place holds online, and if they don't have an item in the county they are also in an Inter-Library system. Also I found out that the one in the town closest to me is open Tuesday to Sunday! Shorter hours than here, but more days. As soon a...

Re: November! What are you reading?

Can I just say that I'm sad that I have only 4 holds left at the library? I stopped requesting holds a while back because I knew I wouldn't be here to get them. Getting a library card in Kincardine will be one of the first things I do. I'm seriously getting teary thinking "what if the library t...

Re: October! What are you reading?

I finished both my books: Michael Moore's "Here Comes Trouble"---LOVED IT. Also Jojo Moyes' "Ship of Brides" with was all right. Only so much can happen on a decommissioned warship sailing from Australia to the UK.

Now I'm reading Joyce Maynard's "The Good Daughters".

Re: October! What are you reading?

I'm still reading "The Ship of Brides" by Jojo Moyes. It's all right. I'm not emotionally invested in the characters and I'm halfway in.

I've also started Michael Moore's "Here Comes Trouble". It's really good.

Re: October! What are you reading?

I finished "What Alice Forgot" by Liane Moriarty last night. I would recommend it. Now I have a book by Jojo Moyes; something about Australian war brides. I seem to be having an Australian month. Also in book news, R found an application that will display epub files on my PlayBook. (It cam...
