Re: It's August - what are you reading?
I'm reading The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood and I'm... uh.... kinda bored. :crystal Crystal and Beverly, does the science fiction story matter for the rest of the story? I wanna cry every time that starts. Iris's story is much more interesting, although it moves too slowly for my taste. Ooh, ...

I finished up Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, and loved it. Really, it's very good.
Now I'm on to Alice Hoffman's The River King.

I finished up The 19th Wife a few days ago. It was okay, enjoyable enough, but not fantastic. I've just started Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, and I have high expectations for it.

I finished Then We Came to the End a few days ago -- that was a seriously good book. I highly recommend it.
Now I'm on to The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff. I'm less than 100 pages in, and I haven't decided yet how I feel about it.

I just a few minutes ago finished Man Crazy by Joyce Carol Oates. It's the first of her books I've read (!), and it was pretty darn good, if not a little depressing.
Now I'm on to Then We Came to the End by Joshua Ferris.

Re: It's May - what are you reading?
Blush! I'm so glad you mentioned that Joshua Ferris book! Several months ago I heard an interview with him on the radio, and I really wanted to read the book, but I was in the car when I was listening and had forgotten his name by the time I was home and could write it down. Is it good so far?

Re: It's April - what are you reading?
SÃlvia, I sort of go hot and cold (usually within the same book!) on John Irving. He's sort of weirdly sex-obsessed, but overall I really like his stuff. I read A Prayer for Owen Meany last year, and I LOVED it. It's one of my all-time favorites. A Widow for One Year is very good, too. In fact, the...

Re: It's April - what are you reading?
Oh, wow ... you should totally get it, SÃlvia! It's a huge sensation over here ... it was just made into a movie (Swedish language, though), and there's been so much hype. The author was from the next town over from mine, so he's a bit of a hometown hero in these parts. He actually died four or fiv...

Re: It's April - what are you reading?
I think Great Expectations is an excellent read! Right now I'm working on Män som hatar kvinnor (Men Who Hate Women) by Stieg Larsson. It's a suspense/detective novel, and very good so far. The English translation is called The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo -- everybody I know who's read it can't put...

Re: You show me yours I'll show you mine.
It was me who took forever to read The Blind Assassin. :blush Like Crystal said, though, it wasn't in a "slogging through it" kind of way, it was because I was busy (Petra was a baby, we were doing a lot of Mosaic Minds work, etc.). I loved it very, very much, though. Seriously, maybe one ...

Re: 2008 Book round-up!
How many books did you read this year? (if you're into tracking that sort of thing) ~~36 ... quite a few short of the 50 I aimed for, but oh well. What was your favourite book read this year? ~~Probably On Beauty by Zadie Smith. Or maybe A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. Although, looking back...

Re: It's December - What are you reading?
I'm working on Blood on the Tongue, a detective novel by Stephen Booth. It's the third in a series that I think is pretty good (despite the fact that the non-word "disorientated" slipped past the editors on at least one occasion -- I have a hard time getting over things like that ).

Re: It's November - What are you reading?
A few days ago I finished Anna, Hanna och Johanna , then I read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time . Both were good, and I especially liked the second because it was a quick, satisfying read. Now I'm on to Searching for Caleb by Anne Tyler. It's the only one of her novels I haven't ye...

Re: It's November - What are you reading?
I finished up A Prayer for Owen Meany a couple of days ago ... wow, what a fantastic book. John Irving kind of gets on my nerves sometimes, but I was completely captivated by this book. Really, one of the best books I've read in a long time. I was so moved by it that I went looking for reviews onlin...
