Re: July!

I like Linwood Barclay too! I do like Riley Sager - he is a he but it's a pseudonym purposely chosen to be questionable gender. His first 3 are my faves particularly Final Girls. Random note: I've only had one 5 star book since 2020 (The Nightingale) and then no 5 stars until 2013. I knew I was stri...

Re: July!

Blush - I read it - solid 4 star! :) Way to go on 40! I did like the new Riley Sager - The House Across the Lake. Has anyone read him? Kinda thriller/horror-y. I started Tokyo Dreaming - Book 2 of a YA Japanese princess series. Yes, I still think I'm 16. I have a huge stack from the library. Hopeful...

Re: July!

Spudd - it's weird, I'm not sure that I would recommend it but I was so shocked by the end and actually liking it. I did love her previous book The Plot so maybe look into that one? I stayed home sick today and started the new Riley Sager. So far so good but it is the drunk unreliable female narrato...

Re: July!

I ended up really liking The Latecomer and would have been a 5 star book if it wasn't such a slog for 2/3 of the book.

I have the new Riley Sager that I think I'm going to pick up tonight.

Re: July!

I'm currently reading The Latecomer by Jean Hanff Korelitz which is ok but it's really picked up in the last 1/3 of the book. There is zero character development and you only know each of the unlikeable characters very shallow-ly. I have a great stack and could really use some time off to dive into ...

Re: June!

I've read Billie Letts before and really liked her.

Atomic Habits is really good too.

I read Aurora by David Koepp and The Agathas (YA) this weekend both of which I liked.

I'm reading We Are Unprepared by Meg Little Reilly now. I think i'm definitely in an apocalyptic mood these days.

Re: June!

I like that cover better Sylvia. That at least screams 1960s to me.

I did read The One and looking back - that scored a 3 and The Arc scored at 3.5. LOL

M asked me what the book was about and when I told him, he said you already read a book like that. He remembers better than I do. LOL

Re: June!

Sylvia - I really liked Lessons in Chemistry and you're right it is not a light rom-com. I heard that the author was unhappy with the cover because it implied rom-com. This weekend I read The Arc which was a bit of a slog in the beginning but I'm glad I kept at it. It's about a dating program that s...

June!

I read Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin as an ARC this weekend. It was such a great story about friendship. My first 5 star since 2020. I also read True Biz which is about a deaf school. I learned a ton about ASL and the deaf community which I literally knew nothing about. I hig...

Re: April! (the month not the person)

Silvia - I liked The Golden Couple but I have heard some bad reviews of it. If it didn't take, I would just let it be. ;)

From this weekend:

Anatomy - Dana Schwartz (4 stars)
The Golden Couple - Greer Hendricks/Sara Pekkanen (4 stars)
The Younger Wife - Sally Hepworth (3.5 stars)

Re: April! (the month not the person)

Spudd - not sure if this applies but I have heard that if you're reading on a kindle that if you take it offline after downloading the book then it can't be returned until you hook up to wifi again. I finished The Book of Cold Cases - good but 3.5 stars. Thought the ending was rushed which i hate. I...

March!

I started The Violence this weekend and loving it. Pandemic-y but a really fast read. It discussed covid but this is the 2nd pandemic after covid.

I have a huge stack after that.

Re: February!

I read Bomb Shelter by Mary Laura Philpot. A collection of essays. I'm not an essay lover although I have considered writing them myself. It was decent and an ARC so I always feel the need to read unsolicitated ARCs.

Not sure what is next on my list.
