Anyone have any holiday/winter related books to recommend?
The one that comes to mind for me is "Holidays on Ice" by David Sedaris. I read it many years ago but it was light, fun, quick read.

Re: It' December...what are you reading?
I ended up starting "Full Body Burden". I decided that since I knew "Defending Jacob" would be more gripping, I'd be motivated to get through FBB so I could get to it. FBB is non-fiction which is a little harder for me to stick with before bed but this is really good. I read 100 ...

Re: It' December...what are you reading?
I don't know if we have that option but that would be awesome. I'll look into it. Thanks! I picked up "Defending Jacob" and "Full Body Burden". Anyone want to recommend which I should read first? I'm leaning towards Defending Jacob because I think it'll be faster paced and so may...

Re: It' December...what are you reading?
I finished "Eventide". I forced myself to go to bed earlier to get it finished since it's due back at the library today. It definitely wasn't as good as "Plainsong" or maybe it was too similar and so I wasn't as impressed. Still glad I read it though. I have "Run" by An...

Re: It' December...what are you reading?
I'm still reading "Eventide" by Kent Haruf. I'm making slow progress because I've been obsessed with the show "Parenthood" and have been burning up my reading time with tv.

Re: November already! What are you reading?
4 books in one DAY? How is that possible? I'm just a slow reader, I guess. Four books. Huh. I could get through one if I read all day.

Re: November already! What are you reading?
Ugh, I started and gave up on Michael Moore's "Here Comes Trouble" in a span of 2 nights. The first chapter was okay. At least it felt relevant enough that I could overlook the writing. Then he started at the beginning of his life, his birth, early years and I was like, dear God, I don't h...

Re: November already! What are you reading?
I listened to an interview with her on NPR and got really interested in her book. I'll have to put it on my list.

Re: November already! What are you reading?
I also loved Michael Moore's memoir that came out last year, "Here comes trouble". I read it in book form. I have that from the library right now! I'm still finishing up The Glass Castle though. Reallllly good. Glad to hear you like Tell the Wolves, Bitsy. I MEAN BUGSY. Sil and Spudd, I t...

Re: November already! What are you reading?
I forgot to pack "run" for the trip so managed to arrive with only one book. I have "before I go to sleep". It's so good!! I would equate it to gone girl but better. And consequently, I've almost finished it So now I need to find a bookstore tomorrow. Any suggestions for a page-t...

Re: November already! What are you reading?
I finished "Blue Nights". Agh, terribly wonderful book. It resonated with me a lot more than "The Year of Magical Thinking". Probably just because the mother/child bond runs deep in all of us. Now I'm on to "Run" by Ann Patchett. I also have from the library: Here Comes...

Re: November already! What are you reading?
I'm reading "Blue Nights" by Joan Didion. It's about the loss of her only daughter. So far I like it better (or it resonates more) than "The Year of Magical Thinking" which was about her mourning the loss of her husband.

Re: November already! What are you reading?
Sounds right up my alley; I'll add it to my list.I've just started "So Much For That" by Lionel Shriver. So far it's really depressing!

Re: It's October...what are you reading?
Finished "State of Wonder". Overall I really liked the book a lot. However...spoilers ahead... I'm sort of "eh" on the ending. That Anders actually didn't die, I guess I can buy that but it's a stretch and I think it's an easy out. It's like the TV cliche of it all being a dream....

Re: It's October...what are you reading?
I'll admit that I really like classic Americana-lit (if that's such a thing, haha). Set on farms, rural lands. So the idea of something set in the Amazon was a major gamble for me. I was worried it wouldn't be relatable. But I'm finding it fascinating! It's really a good book and the setting is such...

Re: It's October...what are you reading?
I had a 10 day dry spell and finally went to the library yesterday. BY MYSELF. So I got three books:
The Price of Motherhood by Ann Crittenden
The Memory Palace by someone Bartok
Blue Nights by Joan Didion
Should be a nice, depressing group of books!
