I vote for the Weird Sisters - I've heard great things about it and our library doesn't even have it yet. Wah!
That is...if I get a vote.

Re: January! What are you reading?
I finished Sworn to Silence by Linday Castillo. Nice little murder mystery with a bit of Amish thrown in. I like the lead character - Kate Somethingorother who used to be Amish and is now the Chief of Police in the town she grew up in (1/2 amish and 1/2 "English"). There is another in the ...

Re: January! What are you reading?
Jen Lancaster has a new book coming out in the spring -- its fiction this time. I guess she realized she was "out of" memoirs.
I still really like her and read her blog regularly. I like her snark but sometimes it rubs me the wrong way.

Re: January! What are you reading?
I have Unbroken in my queue at the library. I think I'm 12th or so. I read The Lock Artist by Steve Hamilton yesterday. I really liked his writing -- never read anything from the author before. Its the story of a young man who went through a traumatic event as a child and hasn't been able to talk si...

Re: January! What are you reading?
I finished Such a Pretty Face by Cathy Lamb on Monday. It was just ok - I only finished it because I kept thinking it would get better. I started By the Time you Read This by Lola Jaye yesterday. I may give it up. Its the story of a girl who's father dies at 30 and has left her a manual of life and ...

Spudd, I grabbed him randomly off the new release shelf at the library. I love his writing - he's one my fave finds for this year.

Mellen, I love that you read so much historical fiction. That's totally how my holds come in too. What else you got?

Re: December! What are you reading?
Let me retract my excitement for My False Friend. I loved it until the end - it was rushed and I'm not entirely sure what happened. I hate when an author spends so much time on development and then rushes the end. Bah. Next up is April and Oliver (Tess Callahan?). I'm 2 pages in so no comment yet. I...

Re: December! What are you reading?
I'm having a really good string of reads these days. I"m almost done The False Friend by Myla Goldberg - so far so good! its the story of a woman who's best friend was kidnapped when they were young but years later as an adult she remembers what really happened to her. She goes back to her home...

Re: December! What are you reading?
Loved, loved, loved My Name is Mary Sutter. Go out and read it.
Also read This is Where We Live by Janelle Brown which I really liked and breezed through. Recommended.
Not sure what's up next. Need to get cracking in December.

Re: December! What are you reading?
I'm reading My Name is Mary Sutter and loving it. Its the story of a midwife who wants to go to medical school and become a surgeon. The kicker? It takes place during the Civil War. I hate to recommend things before I finish so I'll wait.....

Re: F*%$ it's November?
I've been on a decent roll lately with good books. Just finished: The Good Daughters by Joyce Maynard I'd Know You Anywhere by Laura Lippman Both were 4 stars in my book (out of 5) but I'm really stingy with my 5 stars. :) Also breezed through Supercompetent by Laura Stack last night. I love her Lea...

Re: F*%$ it's November?
Wow Spudd, that's a crazy number of holds. I"m lucky to go to a library that has a decent selection but that the online hold option isn't used by the masses. I think the longest I waited was for the Henrietta Lacks book which was 17th or so.

Whatcha reading? I'm currently on p.3 of Strangers at the Feast by Jennifer Vanderbes. I know.........seriously I had 3 minutes to read yesterday. I'm also trying to learn German so I'm spending some free time with that. Mellen, I loved Room too! I thought it would be hard because I have a son but I...

July - What are you reading?
Can't believe there isn't a thread yet. I'm moving slowly this year at #53, at this rate I will hit 100 books by the end of the year but will not beat last year's total of 125. I just finished The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore. It is the story of 2 men with the same name, who grew up in the same neig...

It's January - what are you reading?
Happy 2010 Everyone!!! Just finished #124 yesterday. It was Identical by Ellen Hopkins a YA book written in verse. I'm loving her stuff. This was the story about 2 identical twins who are very different from each other. This wasn't as good as her Crank/Glass series but still interesting. Up next is ...

Re: 500 books in a year!
Honestly, I think she is enjoying them. Her posts are so much more interesting than the woman who is doing a book a year. I think she just spends all her free time and part of her sleep time reading and I think she reads fast. In the last couple of years I've really worked at finding *good* books by...
