Re: Mellen and Annie, please tell me how it ends!
I googled some more, and apparently you're right about the baby, but I still couldn't find enough details on Anders. Let's see if Annie remembers. Thanks! As for my hating it, well, it happens. I was just pissed at myself for not taking a backup book with me. And as usual, the misconceptions about B...

Mellen and Annie, please tell me how it ends!
I've put myself out of my misery, but I'm curious. I've read some spoilers on goodreads, but they don't explain everything. So apparently Anders was alive and had been abducted by the cannibals? Why the heck did the crazy doctor tell everyone he was dead? And they exchanged him for Easter? :headscra...

Re: 2012 Reading Lists!
I read somewhere around 25 books. Not great HEY. :lol And hello, friends! I read 21! But my son goes to bed no earlier than 10 pm and I have no commute or lunch hour, so most days I only read for like 30 minutes or so. And 20 is about my average throughout the years :dunno I have no excel file and ...

Re: 2013....It's January what are you reading??
Eh, that's ok. I should have trusted my instincts. I wonder if I'll ever finish it, though, since I always pass out after 10 pages

Re: 2013....It's January what are you reading??
I'm reading State of Wonder by Ann Patchett and I'm hating it (sorry, Annie and Mellen). I'm finding it insanely boring and the only reason I keep reading is because I'm at the beach house with no other options, and I'm more than halfway through at this point. But ugh. It has *exactly* what I was fe...

Re: It' December...what are you reading?
You can do that to me. I read 30-40 pages in an hour, and that's when I'm interested. I do tend to go back and reread whole sections, though. And no, I don't read any faster in Portuguese.Annie wrote:You read 230 pages in under 2 hours?? Holy shit!!! I will never reveal my reading pace in this group. Wow.

Re: It' December...what are you reading?
Finished Gone Girl last night. Man, I just don't see the appeal. I found the first half boring and the second kind of silly. It felt like a made-for-TV movie. Andthe ending was beyond frustrating. It was gripping, I'll give it that. Gah, I hate when everyone loves a book except me. Now I started The...

Re: November already! What are you reading?
I gotta say I'm kind of unimpressed with Gone Girl so far (page 250 or so). It's readable, but I'm finding it kind of slow. Apparently there'll be tons of twists, so we'll see.

Re: November already! What are you reading?
I finished So Much for That at the beach. Holy depression. But it was good in that twisted Lionel Shriver way. DEFINITELY original. Have you finished it, Spudd?
Now I'm reading Gone Girl. It seems. good so far.

Son of a bitch!! I just read a HUGE spoiler about the book I'm reading! Serves me right for reading stupid amazon reader's reviews. Ugh, I'm so pissed.

I'm reading that too, Spudd. I don't think it'll be anything other than depressing I do like her style, though.

Re: It's October...what are you reading?
Mellen and Annie, ok, I'll pick it up next time, then!
Anna, I did wonder if her depiction of tantrums and stuff like that wasn't a liiittle over the top. I didn't hate the ending either, but I wanted more of a definition.

Re: It's October...what are you reading?
Annie, I didn't pick that up the other day at the store because it was set in the Amazon. I guess that makes me a bad Brazilian. Is there a lot of jungle talk (descriptions, etc?)

Re: It's October...what are you reading?
I finally finished 11/22/63 a few days ago and I really liked it! Well, except for the draggy bits. It took me like 3 weeks to go from pages 200 to 400, and it could have been at least 300 pages shorter, and I was sick and tired of reading about Lee Oswald, but I still liked it a lot. I love time tr...

Re: It's October...what are you reading?
I can see how being American would make it more interesting :) My mom told me when I was little (and later in life I saw documentaries) about what a huge tragedy it was to Americans, but I hadn't even been born at the time, so it's hard to care that much. But don't get me wrong, I am enjoying it. Mo...

Re: It's October...what are you reading?
I'm slogging through 11/22/63. I found it started out well, but started dragging around page 200 or so. I have, however, some problems that you guys won't have with it: first, there are WAY too many references to American culture in the 60s that I just don't get, making for some uninteresting/diffic...

Ooh, that sounds great, Annie. I just read the blurb on good reads. Maybe you should get your own copy if you like it so much!

Re: It's September...what are you reading?
I finished The Innocents, which was way better than I thought when I started it. The mystery itself is kind of silly, and it DID go where I thought it was going, though not exactly the way I thought. What I liked about it was the character development. I thought that part was great, though if you're...
