I finished Someone We Know by Shari Lapena. It was meh.

Now I have The Wives by Tarryn Fisher.

The Wives kept me reading but I didn't like it that much.

Now I have Seven Lies by Elizabeth Kay.

I'm still reading the Pillars of the Earth sequel, whose name escapes me. A Column of Fire, maybe? Anyway, it's the 3rd one in the series, by Ken Follett, and it's about the Elizabethan era. It's fairly entertaining but it's not like amazing or anything. And it's really long.

Spudd, did you see that there's a new prequel to Pillars out? I'll probably skip it, since my reread of Pillars didn't go so well, but who knows? I might be in the mood one day.

So I've read:

Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner - 4.5 stars, loved it
As Bright as Heaven by Susan Meissner (sp?) - 3.5
Looking for Alaska by John Green - 1.5, hated it
Everything you want me to be by Mindy Mejia - 3.5, pretty good
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah - 2.5, too much soap opera-ish suffering for my taste. I enjoyed The Nightingale by her, but all the others I've tried I felt the same.
The Switch by Beth O'Leary - 4 stars, delicious!

Now I'm between books. I've read the first 20% of Sweet Sorrow by David Nicholls, but I'm not feeling it.

Read a few pages of Sweet Sorrow yesterday, was bored, but haven't officially given up yet.

Started Such a Fun Age and am having a hard time understanding all the 5-star ratings It seems like one of those books with an important issue that everyone feels they have to read (and love.) I think it had a good first scene, but then went downhill. I'm at page 97 of only 300, so I might finish it just to see what will happen.

Then I started The Darkest Evening by Ann Cleeves, which might actually grab me: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/491 ... dzs&rank=2

I just finished Seven Lies this morning. I liked the writing style, and it was gripping, but it wasn't completely satisfying. 3 stars.

Now I have The Heat Wave by Kate Riordan.

The Heat Wave was good. I just started the new John Boyne but nope, not doing it. It spans 2000 years, and the first 30 pages made me roll my eyes. So no.

Ok, I'm starting Grown Ups by Marian Keyes.

I finished Such a Fun Age and my opinion never changed. Ugh.

Then I read Notes on a Nervous Planet, which started out very interesting (along the lines of the Netflix doc The Social Dilemma), but turned self-help-y after a while

I'm still reading The Darkest Evening. It's an Agatha Christie-like murder mystery. Not really my thing, I was expecting something darker and with more action, but I'll finish it.

I also started The Bright Side of Going Dark by Kelly Harms.

I finished A Column of Fire. It was OK but would not strongly recommend.

Now I'm reading "Educated" by Tara Westover. Really good so far. It's a memoir.

Grown Ups by Marian Keyes was really good.

Now I have The New Husband by DJ Palmer.

The Darkest Evening was kinda boring.

The Bright Side of Going Dark was ok.

Then I read Dear Edward, which was underwhelming. As much as I complain when books turn melodramatic, this one wasn't dramatic enough.

Not sure what's next, but I'm ready for a book that reminds me of why exactly I love reading. I've had a sequence of 2 and 3 stars. I might start Grown Ups, which was already on my list, and Blush loved (we agree more often than not, I think.)
