OMG! I just had one of these, with 2 separate yolks. It was so weird. Just when I thought I'd gotten the yolk out, I found another one. Does that mean it would have been twins? :eh

You've never seen a double yolk egg? Yeah, it happens sometimes. LOL

I've never seen it before either but I knew it could happen. And in answer to your question, yes, it would have been little twin chickies. But you ate them. :giggle

I've never seen that either!

I learned in Trivial Pursuit that the yolk is actually the food for the baby chicken - the white is what turns into the chicken. I guess it makes sense since the yolk has so many more calories than the white. That makes a double-yolk egg weird though! Maybe you'd end up with a fat chicken.

In my head I always kind of thought that eggs don't turn into chickens. I thought that some eggs are laid with baby chicks in them and others don't.

Hang on, how does an egg turn into a chicken?

:ohfor how do I not know this?

Natalie, they only turn into chickens if they're fertilized. Most eggs are not fertilized so they will never turn into chickens.

You see, when a rooster and a hen are really in love... :lol

As to how they turn into chickens, well, assuming the rooster fertilizes the egg, the part of the egg that will become the chicken starts to grow. Eventually it has eaten up all the food inside the egg and it fills up the whole egg. Then it decides to hatch and breaks out. The end. :)

Warning, this is gross:

At brownie camp the leaders were making breakfast one morning and cracked an egg that had a half-formed chick in it. Yet another reason why birds freak me out.

Oh Blush, that's terrible!!! Sad and gross at the same time!

Sorry but Dr. Rowan has to butt in. Its not the white that is the chix but rather the little "fuzzy" white blob attached to the yolk. I always pull it out when I make scrambled eggs because it freaks me out.

I always wondered what that fuzzy white blob was.

WHAT fuzzy white blob!?

Fuck.

Oh yeah your right, its not the yolk that is the chick. :ohfor I've cracked open eggs before & had that little red speck in the white part. I always think ACK! there's a chicken in my egg. I won't use those ones. gross! I don't like eggs anyway so seeing white blobs & red specs certainly do not help.

I also hate the fuzzy white thing. Aly, it is attached to the yolk and pretty slimy/slippery.

I can't believe y'all have never gotten a double yolk! They kinda freak me out though....little too in your face about eating a potential animal.

This entire thread justifies my stand that eggs, unless used for baking, are just gross... :sick :lol

So why are they ok for baking? Because you can't actually see that you are eating the food for a chick embryo???

:headscratch

Because you can't necessarily taste them, although I will admit I've made quiche before. I just don't like the taste of eggs much anymore.

I hate eggs too b/c I hate the taste I do use them when I bake.

I love eggs! I have 2 hard boiled egg whites every day for breakfast! :woohoo

Although I will admit that I will look next time for this alleged fuzzy white thing stuck to the yolk. :eh
