You got into this business because you're funny and weird, and you're socially retarded. And because it pays well. - Jack Donaghy, 30 Rock.

I read more novels than anything else. I get irritated by short stories. I actually really enjoy reading cookbooks. I never make anything out of them but they're fun to read.

Mainly healthy ones, LB. I have these schemes of cooking actual recipes and then I just end up throwing meals together.

I have The Healthy Family: Cooking for the Rushed by Sandi Richard on hold at the library for me right now; just waiting for it to come in. She has a show on Food Network Canada that I really like.

I also like slow cooker books and "quick and easy" cookbooks; I try to figure out how to make some of the recipes healthier.

I stay away from baking, grilling and fancy cookbooks because I know I wouldn't even attempt the stuff in there. I know how to make some basic cakes and cookies; I don't need to start messing with letting things rise etc. :giggle

How the hell am I supposed to pick only one favorite?

My reading schedule tends to go like this:

1. Social science nonfiction (for example The God Delusion, Suburban Nation, The End of Poverty)

2. Science/nature nonfiction (currently reading The Diversity of Life, another recent example is Cry of the Kalahari - which is also a memoir)

3. Fiction. The fiction selections alternate between fluff and substance.

Repeat.
