October! What are you reading?

Post by Rowan »

I'm reading a YA book, To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han. It's part of a trilogy and is also on Netflix. So far so good.

I read Atomic City Girls by Janet Beard this weekend and I really liked it. I'm enjoying historical fiction lately.

I gave up on Alligator.

Now I'm trying Tangerine by Christine Mangan.

Hey guys! I haven't updated in a while, so let's see. I finished the Brazilian history one, it was interesting. Then I read The Suspect by Michael Robotham, the first in the Joseph O'Loughlin series. It was good. Then I read a Brazilian period romance that kinda sucked, then An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn, now I'm reading the next one in the series... whose title in English I forget. It's #4 in the Bridgerton series. I highly recommend this series if you're into period romantic comedies. They're so light and entertaining!

I just finished "A Place of My Own" by Michael Pollan. Would not really recommend it. He spends way too much time waxing eloquent about architecture.

Then started "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer (sp?). So far so good!

I finished Tangerine. It was not as good as I expected it would be.

Now, because I haven't gone to the library, I am reading a YA novel I won: Optimists Die First by Susin Nielsen. She wrote for Degrassi so I'm expecting good things.

Side note: I'm 4 books behind on my reading challenge!!

I finished Optimists Die First. It was pretty good.

Next is a book of essays by Anne T Donohue called Nobody Cares. I've been looking forward to this one.

Is she the pop culture columnist I hear on CBC Radio sometimes? If so, I like her. I didn't know she was also a writer.

I read Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid a few days ago. I LOVED it. It's a novella, you read it in less than an hour.

Then I started In Her Shadow by Mark Edwards. Very gripping, as was the other book I read by him, Follow You Home. I should finish that today or tomorrow.

I finished Nobody Cares and recommend it.

Now I've started a novel called Mem by Bethany C. Morrow.

Edit: couldn't get into that book. Now I'm reading When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger.

I finished Dry by Neal and Jarrod Schusterman which I really liked. Water dries up in CA - people start rioting, etc. I think it's YA.

I started The Skies Belong to Us which is a non-fiction book about the plane hijacking era of the 60s and 70s before there was any security at airports. So far so good.

Finished In Her Shadow. It was entertaining, but terribly far-fetched. I'm not giving up on him, but why can't today's mystery writers come up with slightly more believable plots? Sigh.

Then I started The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain. I'm always promising I'll never read another book by her (they're so trashy), but I always give in. This one's about time travel! How could I skip it? So far it's entertaining but not surprising. I'm only on page 140 or so, but nothing I didn't expect after reading the blurb has happened. And I have an idea where it's headed. I hope I'm wrong.

I finished The Skies Belong to Us - it was ok. Not sure I would recommend it.

I also read some organizational type book this weekend which taught me nothing. :|

I read Waiting for Eden which wasn't up to the hype.

*sigh*

I have a small pile waiting for me and I hesitate to grab anything at this point. I could always catch up on This is Us. I'm a bunch of episodes behind...

The Dream Daughter did not go where I thought it was going, yay! It was a bit trashy, as usual, but very engrossing.

Now I'm rereading Rebecca. It's my third time. First time was at 16, second early 30s, now late 40s. So about every 15 years. I must be addicted to contemporary fiction, because I'm finding it a bit of a slow starter. I loved it both previous times, though.
