January 2019 - what are you reading?!?
I have a few things on my pile not sure what I'll grab either Scythe or The Address.
Happy New Year all!

Happy New Year!
I finished Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey before we left Barbados. It was fine.
Now I have The Singles Game by Lauren Weisberger (gossipy tennis novel).

Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?
I finally finished the Jill Mansell after 2 weeks, but let's focus on the fact that I was able to finish a book! Jill Mansell is verrrry light reading (she reminds me of Maeve Binchy), so it was just what I needed. Then I started a sample of an Elin Hilderbrand (Winter in Paradise?). I like it so far.
I set my goodreads goal at 35 because that's what I can handle right now, but I hope to increase it in the not so remote future.

I finished The Singles Game. It was ok; fluffy as expected.
Now I have Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty.

I finished Nine Perfect Strangers the other day. I didn't read much about it beforehand so I only had the book jacket blurb to go on. I really liked it. Not as good as Big Little Lies, but a smidgen better than Truly Madly Guilty in my opinion (though I gave all 5 stars).
Now I have Her Pretty Face by Robyn Harding.

Finished Winter in Paradise. I liked it overall, but it's the first in a trilogy and ends in a cliffhanger. The next book won't come out until October, which is annoying.
Then I picked up another one by her, The Rumor. I used to be put off by her beach-y covers, but this is my third book by her and they're right up my alley I still have no intention of reading anything heavier.

I'm of the mind to never apologize for what you are reading, ever. You're reading.I used to be put off by her beach-y covers, but this is my third book by her and they're right up my alley I still have no intention of reading anything heavier.
I get into YA moods and often these are girly YA. Reading is an escape for me and shouldn't ever be a chore.
Be good to yourself Syl.
Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?
You're absolutely right, Ro. I stopped trying to read what I "should" a long time ago. I don't know why I'm feeling guilty about reading something light especially at this moment in my life. I really, really can't handle anything darker right now. Not even a thriller if it involves gore. Certainly not my beloved world war 2 dramas. God forbid anything involving diseases. So chick lit it is, and I feel Ms. Hilderbrand does a wonderful job at writing chick lit for the older woman. I'm glad she's written 20+ books!
Thank you
Thank you

Light reads are absolutely necessary sometimes.
I just finished Her Pretty Face. It was meh.
Next I have The Witch Elm by Tana French. It's a high demand book so I have to return it in 2 weeks.

I'm halfway through An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I usually don't like 2 authors as I can tell the different voices but these 2 work really well with each other. Really enjoying this -- i was in a bit of a reading rut but I think i'm out.
Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?
Finished The Rumor. Loved it. It had a Desperate Housewives vibe to it that I loved. Now I started Winter Street, the first in her Winter series.

I finished The Witch Elm. It was really good. Long, but good.
Now I have Red, White, Blue by Lea Carpenter. On Goodreads it's described as:
Now I have Red, White, Blue by Lea Carpenter. On Goodreads it's described as:
A dark, powerful, and subtly crafted novel that traces the intertwined fates of a CIA case officer and a young woman who is forced to confront her dead father's secret past--at once a gripping, immersive tale of duplicity and espionage, and a moving story of love and loyalty.
Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?
I didn't love An Anonymous Girl. I liked the first half but thought the second half was weirdly rushed.
I read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas which was good. Quick read.
Not sure what's next on the pile. Either Sometimes I Lie or The Other Woman.

Red White Blue was bad so I stopped reading it.
I'm going to try Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips.

I read the first 2 books in Elin Hilderbrand's Winter series and I'm not impressed. The first one was ok, the second one was boring. Now I don't know what to read. I'm still not in the mood for anything darker.

Silvia, have you ever read any books by Sheila O'Flanagan? She writes light fiction.
I am currently reading Fear: Trump in the White House by Bob Woodward. It's not the least bit comforting.

I'm reading Freefall by Jessica Barry which I'm liking.
Syl -- how about some easy-ish historical fiction? I recently loved The Address and The Masterpiece both by Fiona Davis. Both are NY settings.

Re: January 2019 - what are you reading?!?
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Any book in particular by her, Blush? I've seen her name around, but have never read anything. Ro, Fiona Davis has been on my radar for a while, but her books are ridiculously expensive on kindle (the cheapest is US$18) for some reason. I'll keep checking, sometimes prices go way down. But most books I'm interested in are US$5-10 or less, so I find that hard to justify!
I started a Rowan Coleman last night, I might stick to it. It's The Summer of Impossible Things.
