Well, here's my list of books read:

1. (-1: read just before New Years' 2008) A Jest of God by Margaret Laurence (5)
2. The Fire-Dwellers by Margaret Laurence (3.5)
3. Dune by Frank Herbert (3.5)
4. Go Ask Alice by Anonymous (2.5)
5. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris (3)
6. The 158-Pound Marriage by John Irving (4)
7. Nighttime is My Time by Mary Higgins Clark (2.5)
8. You're Wearing That? Understanding Mothers and Daughters in Conversation by Deborah Tannen (3.5)
9. A Bird in the House by Margaret Laurence (4)
10. The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood (4)
11. Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood (4.5)
12. What Was She Thinking? Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller (3)
13. The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks (2.5)
14. Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris (3.5)
15. The Diviners by Margaret Laurence (5)
16. Club Dead by Charlaine Harris (2.5)

So my favorites were "A Jest of God" and "The Diviners" by Margaret Laurence and "Cat's Eye" by Margaret Atwood. Go go, Canadian authors, apparently. :) Really, those three were just awesome awesome books. I absolutely plan to read more novels by each of those women this year.

And since most of these weren't even read until July or later, I plan to read a lot more books in general this year. :)

Go go, Canadian authors, always. ;) Please read Miriam Toews next!

I read lots of good books this year, but the one that I keep urging on people is The Book of Dahlia by Julia Albert. The author manages to make the main character's family dysfunction seem sadder than the fact that she has an inoperable brain tumour, and yet she has you bursting out loud laughing at the same time. I thought it was genius.

Crystal, do you recommend specific novels by Toews or just that I should read her in general? I added her name and The Book of Dahlia to my "to be read" list. :)

Crystal, I picked up The Book of Dahlia at the library today. I spotted it on the "featured" shelf. :awesome

My faves of 2009 were also all by Canadians:

Suddenly by Bonnie Burnard

The Wife's Tale by Lori Lansens

Fall by Colin McAdam
