August!

Post by Rowan »

Here I am. Job has me scrambling but it's good.

I've read a few:

Girls and Their Horses - Eliza Jane Brazier - just fun fluff
The Kind Worth Saving by Peter Swanson - not my favorite by him but ok

I've read a few Peter Swanson books apparently, but even after reading the summaries I can't remember them!

Kismet by Amina Akhtar was not great. I gave it 2 stars on Saturday but might downgrade it to one.

Now I have The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez.

I finished My Name is Anton. It was ok, 3 stars. I wasn't a fan of her writing in this one. Then I read a hyped Brazilian one I hated. Now I'm reading another Brazilian I'm enjoying. None of which are likely to be published in English.

I finished Prom Mom by Laura Lippman - I generally really like her standalones but the title really irked me on this one and probably should have trusted my gut. I needed to know what happened so finished it.

I've got Cutting Teeth by Chandler Baker up next -- little vampire preschoolers--what could go wrong? LOL

I just finished Five Total Strangers by Natalie Richardson (or something similar for author name - book name is definitely right). It was a page-turner for sure, and an easy read. Would recommend for vacation reading. If I had to give it stars, I'd probably give it 3/5 because it was a bit... I dunno... lame? But I enjoyed myself.

Ooh, I loved The Light Pirate! I also loved her previous one, have you read it?

Spudd, I totally rate books on how much I enjoyed them, no matter how lame :lol

I've read a bunch of Brazilians this month, none of which have been translated into English. From English language authors I've just read Home Before Dark by Riley Sager (found it kind of boring) and I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys. The latter was interesting because of its historical aspect (it's set in Romenia in the final months of Nicolae Ceaușescu's administration), but I was very underwhelmed by her writing. Way too simplistic, cold, rushed. If it weren't for the setting I wouldn't have finished it. Ended up giving it 3 starts because of that alone.

I read an ARC of The Breakaway by Jennifer Weiner. It just came out so not exactly "early" but I'm trying to tackle some of these ARCs in my Kindle app. It was fine. 3 stars.

I just pulled Mrs Plansky's Revenge by Spencer Quinn to start this am. I should have at least an hour before people start waking up. :bunny
