It's that time!
Whatcha readin?
I'm reading two things right now -
Shifting: The Double Lives of Black Women in America. It's based on interviews with and surveys of a total of 400+ black women of varying ages, economic status, education, etc. It's really good in that I find myself identifying with a lot of what is being said. But, it's also a little depressing . . . .
I just bought Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I read an excerpt in O magazine not too long ago and I haven't been able to get the book out of my mind. I think I'm really going to enjoy it!

I'm reading The Broke Diaries which
lent me. It's funny! It's about all the ways a poor college student tried to survive with no money. She's quite resourceful.
You got into this business because you're funny and weird, and you're socially retarded. And because it pays well. - Jack Donaghy, 30 Rock.

But one book isn't necessarily only one author's opinion, especially when it's of a medical nature. It usually cites several studies and takes different points of view for a well-rounded argument. That's why I thought it was weird to get three, they will probably have much the same information. Get one first, and if it doesn't answer your question then order the other two.
Or just do what you want, of course, and say "shut up Crystal"

I just finished Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster. It was pretty funny but nothing super special.
I'm reading Diary of a Fat Brides: Tales from a Pretend Adulthood by Laurie Naturo (sp?). It's really funny. I already have the next book - I Love Everyone (and other lies)
I want to get Heat By Bill Bufford but the crack staff at Barnes and Noble couldn't find it the last time I was in there.

Would you recommend that? I started to skim through it at the bookstore, but the author seemed so obnoxious I didn't think I'd enjoy reading the book.mellenhead wrote:I just finished Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster. It was pretty funny but nothing super special.
Okay - about this "Fat Bride" business - is she really actually fat or just lamenting a few extra pounds? THAT will determine if I read the book!

She was a bit obnoxious, but realizes how horrible she's acted by the end of the book. It's a good fluff read. I loaned it to a friend, but I'll be glad to send it to you when I get it back.Lady Bug wrote:Would you recommend that? These books are actually like a bunch of short stories. The book isn't really about being a fat bride and her wedding, it's about her getting married and not feeling like an adult and adjusting to being married. It really is funny. Here's a link to amazon with reviews: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/037576 ... oding=UTF8Lady Bug wrote:Okay - about this "Fat Bride" business - is she really actually fat or just lamenting a few extra pounds?
